I’m just wondering whether you can request a copy of the letter my gynae would of sent to my gp after my diagnostic lap?

How do I go about doing this?

They never charged me my gp was, feeling nice and just printed it off. Xx. They should really forward one to you but I do find gynae are quite slack at this other departments seem to forward letters never gynae in my experience xxx

I was told I'd just get sent one in the post when they sent it to my GP x

When you say a letter, do you mean the general discharge letter or something more than this? I always assumed everyone got this when they left the hospital, just as a standard procedure. It’s shocking if you never!

I was looking for more information regarding my surgery and when I called my GP they had the discharge letter I was given but nothing else in addition to this. They were going to give it to me for free though if it wasn’t what I already had. I now want a copy of my report and need to put a formal subject access request in to the hospital which is going to take around 40 days to get it and cost £50.

I was given a discharge letter but it literally had no information on it at all. I want the report of my surgery because my dr told me a lot more after the operation about what he found than what he told me on my follow up appointment. I just want the report so I know exactly what was done as I can’t remember much I was told after the surgery

Oh you might have the same problem as me then. My discharge letter really didn’t say anything at all about what happened in surgery but it’s literally the only thing my GP received as well.

Try phoning the consultants secretary (that’s what I did); they might be able to give you more information but it’s likely you might be left having to pay the £50 fee and doing it through their official request channels like I am x

Hi, copying letters to patients has been NHS policy since 2003.

You shouldn’t have to pay.

Your GP is likely to just give you a copy if the hospital didn’t send one automatically.

You should speak to the secretary of your gynae consultant. They should always do a copy of the letter to you. Being charged for it is disgraceful. These are your records!! Tell the practice manager of the go surgery as well.

I just phoned my consultants secretary and requested a copy to be sent to me. They didnt charge.

Its your information you are entitled to see it.

If you get no luck then i was once told been told you can view your medical notes at your gp surgery. You just need to request this and posdibly make an appt with the medical secretaries.
