First laparoscopy, haven't seen gyne since pre-op

Hello everyone :) this is my first post, although I've found reading everyone else's experiences helpful over the years I've never had a diagnosis.

Last week I had my first laparoscopy after 14 years of being fobbed off and trying everything medical the last couple of years before they'd agree to lap.

Even in the morning of my op the gyne was saying how he didn't expect to find any cause of my pain and that he invisenged it being a quick half hour to look to rule endo out.

When I woke up I had hideous pain which despite having 200mcg fentanyl and 10mg morphine IV didn't settle. Eventually a few hours later I came around properly with just some cramping. Post op I didn't see any of the gyne team so eventually as they were planning to discharge ne that evening I took a picture of the surgical report so that I had some idea what had happened as I was under anaesthetic for 2.5 hours and had plasma in recovery.

My notes stated that they found "severe endometriosis" involving both uterosacral ligaments, retrovaginal space. Pouch of douglas obliterated, rectum being bulled up. Both ovaries free, fallopian tubes looked normal and uterus looked normal. Bilateral Uterolysis performed. En- block excision of butterfly area. Both pararecral spaces entered and retrovaginal space opened having shaved the nodule.

I'm nurse so generally get jargon, but as I haven't had a chance to discuss this with the gyne team (very disappointed and haven't even had my sick note) I was hoping you lovely bunch of experienced ladies could help me understand what they found/what has been done?!

Genuinely cried when I read "severe endometriosis" as for years they've made out like it's all in my head and reluctant to give me any pain relief dispite fainting in public numerous times, missing loads of work and losing days trying to breathe through pain.

Thanks in advance :) <3

Hi there, I’m sorry you’ve had such a terrible experience!

I haven’t had a laparoscopy yet but I have done so much research about endo.

The uterosacral ligament is a common place for endo, it’s near your large intestine (I have these symptoms too)

It’s positive that your ovaries and Fallopian tubes were clear!

Obviously I’m not a medical specialist but I really wanted to respond to your message and say you aren’t alone!

I know it’s hard but concentrate on the positives - your ovaries are free!! Xx

Thanks for popping by :) I can't tell you how relieved I was about that! Planning to start a family in the next 6 months so fingers crossed!

I was a little disappointed that they didn't even send th f1 round to see me tbh, they didn't even do discharge paperwork until some poor f2 who didn't know me had to do it retrospectively based on notes a day later!

As far as I'm concerned if I hadn't read my notes all I'd know was that they did a lap and it hurt :p

It sounds ridiculous to be honest!! You should’ve been fully informed about everything, I’d definitely mention it if you go in for a post op check up! X
