Has anyone ever skipped surgery for severe endometriosis and gone straight to IVF and got pregnant?

I'm in a similar situation and am researching this! One of the specialists I saw said it's not a good idea to take the hormones to excite your ovaries to produce more eggs if (like me)you have a large cyst. Eggs can however be extracted.

Thanks for your reply. I have read mostly that a lap before ivf is the better option and to be honest I feel I should 'tidy up' in there before trying to bringing a baby into the world - that makes sense to me. Good luck in your research x

First ivf I went straight into it with an endometrioma on my left ovary. They drained the cyst prior to stimms, but stimming just made it grow again and that ovary didn't make many eggs. Anyway this cycle resulted in bfn. So I was advised before the next to have a lap and permanently burn the cyst away resulting in a small layer of ovary taking away. The left wasn't working 100% any way so I thought why not. Anyway the quality of my eggs were better second time and I got a BFP. I did take supplements so this might have helped too. But I think it's best to get endo sorted esp. if you have a cyst prior to ivf cos the drugs stimulate the endo too. Any questions pm me.

I had the choice last month but one of my cyst is just over 4cm which is over the recommended size. I wimped out and I'm waiting for the op. I know the estrogen during treatment will just make the cysts grow, they wouldn't get to my ovaries so I didn't really see a choice. Serious infections can be caused by harvesting and potentially popping the cysts. Hope you can make the right decision for you x

I agree with what you say so I discussed with me husband and we feel that having surgery first is the better option x

Yes. I was diagnosed during lap for fertility investigations. Surgeon wanted me to go on prostap then get me back for treatment. Fertility consultant wanted me to just get referred straight for ivf. They left the decision up to me and I decided to to go straight for ivf as I was 36/37 at the time. My chances were not great, only got 4 eggs and only one fertilised and survived. I now have a wee miracle 7 month old baby.

Thanks. I suppose everyone is different tho. I didn't have endo on my ovaries. I had 1 tube completely blocked, uterus stuck to bladder and all over Pod. My friend was in the same position but she had 3 rounds of failed ivf and eventually conceived after paying privately to have endo removed. It took her about 3 months after op to fall pregnant. I just thought hearing positive stories of endo pregnancies might help. It's normally all doom and gloom. Good luck to you all.

Hi, i have stage 4, i had surgery last week to remove a swollen tube and drain a large cyst 7cm. I start ivf straight away to try and get pregnant before the cyst refills.

I was told at my ultrasound scan that if i got pregnant naturally they had no research on how or if the large cyst would affect pregnancy, but that doesnt matter now.

Due to my swollen tube i was told it could leak and wash an embryo away and the cyst would affect egg collection. So i opted for surgery on that basis and a pain management as the cyst was causing some issues. X

I have been told the same by my fertility doctor. The risks of endo for the embryo. I think I will go for the surgery first option. Good luck x

Yes i went trough IVF despite having severe endometriosis, they tried collapsing a cyst with an injection, then things got really bad and as a result now i live with a frozen pelvis.

Take care of yourself x

I went straight to IVF and had a chemical pregnancy. I'm going do a frozen embryo transfer and will not have the surgery before.
