Hi

I have just had the zoladex implant and wondered how do you know if it's working? Or how long on average until it kicks in?

Also I have the implant until my hysterectomy and I have had one gyne suggest leaving my ovaries in and one say get rid of them.... doctor goggle is so confusing lol

Thanks in advance

I had my first injection on Wednesday.

I think, but I may be wrong here, first symptoms appear pretty much straight away.

Hard to tell as that was day after the lap so I was still drugged up, etc. however I was light headed, had hot flushes and some dizziness day after the injection. Or maybe two, days blur into one.

I was affected after about 2 to 4 days I think, the shell has to start to dissolve. Good luck.

Ovary removal has significant long term risk factors that vary by age a lot so your age comes into it against your pain symptoms reduction in menopausal state which zoladex is meant to be indicative of though this is viewed as a but controversial, it's believed some types of Endo generate their own oestrogen.

I chose no ovary removal as unfortunately I reacted adversely to the zoladex. Also I didn't like the risk of dementia , risk of dying earlier etc.

I stopped it a while ago now, my adverse effects lasted for about 2 months after I stopped.

ATM I am 8 weeks after extensive colorectal and vaginal/ abdominal excision surgery and having a tough ride of it.

I always felt fine on zoladex so it really does affect ppl differently. The withdrawal bleeding and hot flushes don't tend to start until 2-4weeks as both are the result of low estrogen which takes a while for the zoladex to effect.

Good luck, I hope you continue to feel well

It affected me within the first week, the hot flushes were like anything else I had ever experienced!! Had to go onto HRT to deal with the side effects.

Sometimes people do not have a reaction to it so you might be lucky!

Good luck xx

In the last few days I had tingling in my legs and arms. No more flushes and dizziness, that seemed to have gone away now (fingers crossed!)
