Flu/virus symptoms every period! Please help!!

Hi everyone, I wonder if anyone can relate and if so may be able to help me. For the past year or so, on every period that I get, around 3/4 days in I feel like death with diarrhoea, nausea, headache, fatigue and it's really affecting my life and my ability to work as every month I need a couple of days off. Anyway I wondered if anyone does or has experienced these problems every month and I guess my real question is, is there a way to not feel like this every month? It's something that's just come over me the past year or so and I don't know what's causing it! The nausea is unbearable and I almost feel like I'm going to throw up but vary rarely do. Please let me know your experiences and what you do to cope etc? I have stage 4 endo on bowel and pouch of Douglass also and I'm 28. Thanks for reading!

I get similar feelings, as well as horrendous pain in my lower back, hips and pelvis and going hot & cold.

I've had 1 lap to confirm Endo but he didn't treat because my uterus is stuck to my bowel, rectum and pouch of Douglas & he wanted a colorectal surgeon present. I suspect my symptoms are because of the location of Endo. Docs don't seem surprised when I tell them how I feel each month, they just put me on the pill without a break for 3 months to reduce frequency of periods.

My last gynaecologist mentioned GNrH agonist but I'm now being referred to a specialist Endo centre so we'll see what they come up with.

I take paracetamol for the fever and ibuprofen for the pain during my period.

Good luck with everything. It's so depressing that there's no end in sight. Are you waiting for surgery?

Hey thanks for your reply! I have literally the exact same areas affected as you! I also have been advised to have the colorectal surgery but decided to try some natural therapies which have been very good. I no longer have any pain apart from when I have my period and even then it's not as bad as it used to be however I actually find the other symptoms harder to deal with than the pain itself! It is very depressing and difficult because people say they know how you feel but they really don't know how awful it is! I get what I say "gloomy" on my period also which makes dealing with these symptoms even harder. I also suffer with anxiety because of the symptoms! Definitely make sure you go to a specialist centre if you decide to have that op! Are you going to have the colorectal surgery? Do you have any indigestion/acid reflux at all?

I am going to have the surgery if the new gynae suggests it because it's almost completely constricting my bowel - I'm now on laxatives daily.

I've not experienced acid reflux or indigestion though.

Out of interest, what natural methods are you using?

Poor you that sounds awful! It always seems to be one extreme or another either constipation or diarrhoea when you have endo! I use endovan which has been great especially for pain!!

Here is a link where you can get some more info on them and buy some. They're quite expensive but worth it for me at least because I got so bad!

Yes, same ! Started 18 months ago ! About 3 weeks after a ruptured cyst ! I didn't know I have Endo then ! I feel dreadful with my period : no energy, feel sick, go dizzy , feel like I have sinusitis, aching limbs, headaches, aura, sometimes numbness or tingling in head or limb . I Have just been diagnosed with Vestibular migraine ! 5 weeks before they removed a 10cm cyst and found Endo which has Stuck my filopean tube to my bowel and my tube from bladder to kidney ! I also have been told I will need further surgery with bowel surgeon . I didn't get any symptoms of Endo, not even bowel or bladder ones before the rupture ! But no one took me seriously , not even emergency gyno and my rupture was never treated ! I blame that for the mess my insides are in and the period symptoms that have followed ! And also the problems I now have with my bladder and bowels and the pain ! X

I would also like to know what natural methods ? X

Im exactly the same. My old GP said "strange, your immune system must be effected". That was her diagnosis. If it isnt a UTI or pneumonia its a virus! Its no doubt to do with the inflammation caused by endo! It knocks your immune system. Could try vit c the week before/after your period. I just battle through it!

Thanks I may try that! I do take a multivitamin every day which I think helps a bit. I don't understand why I feel like I have a virus every period I have, sometimes I wonder if I do have a virus or just the usual endo related symptoms

Hi!

I used to feel as if I had flu from the waist down when I had my period. Had Lap put on meds which were progesterone based and felt a lot more comfortable when I was given mefenamic acid to help with pain and bleed control. Bowel movements used to go into over drive period time but I guess us women are made with all our bits in the same area. Never give up - GPs are still available probably phone consultations so give him/her a call.
