Feeling down..

Hi, I'm new to this! I just want a little advice and hopefully a little more information.. I had my son 3 years ago.. I have never had problems up until 6 months ago.. I had a scan 3 months ago and it showed 2 masses 2mm each and fluid 2cms.. the doctor told me until I was in agonising pain there wasn't much they could do.. the last 3 weeks I have constantly bled and had the most horrendous back pain.. I went to doctors yesterday and they said it's either a infection or could be endometriosis.. today the nurse swabbed me and said she was pretty sure I don't have a infection toon.. I have a laparoscopy booked just waiting for date within next couple weeks.. I'm petrified! What's the chances of this being endometriosis ? Xx

Hi there

To be honest, it sounds like endo is more likely than not.

Are you scared of the lap? Or having endometriosis? It's probably a bit overwhelming at the moment, especially with things happening so quickly. Try to take one step at a time and keep asking questions.

I think more scared of both.. me and my partner was trying for another baby, so now I have so many doubts and worries.. I'm a little scared of the lap but I know it's worth it to find out.. just hate this not knowing 😔 x

I think the not knowing is really hard. With most other conditions, they do a test or a scan and you know what's going on. If you're having surgery, you normally know what's going on already and exactly what they'll do. Endo's completely different and it's hard to get used to the uncertainty, but you will know soon.

I could be wrong, but I thought I'd read that surgical treatment of endo can improve fertility so your lap should help if you do have it. Is your lap with an endometriosis specialist?

I see that too, but the more I read online the more I scare myself.. i just feel little disappointed in the doctors I feel like they could of done this 3 months ago when I had the scan and it showed abnormalities.. I'm not sure I'm waiting for the specialist gyno doctor to contact me

Hey Beth, try not to panic too much. Laps are usually pretty straight forward with endo unless they find it in difficult places to operate. To me your symptoms do sound like endo rather than anything else. Most women can spend years not knowing they have endo until they get a really bad flare up.

I wouldn't worry too much about your chances of conceiving again until you hear back from the lap results :) I have three friends with varying degrees of endo and they've all had multiple children. One was even told she would never have kids and a couple of years later she had a little boy :) - some great advice from my specalist " you never know until you try"

what info were you after in particular? There is a thing called the endo diet where you cut out food such as dairy, gluten, red meat and soy products to stop bloating etc that adds to endo pain and growth. When I first got diagnosed 12 years ago, I did as much research as I could, because this is something you have to live with for pretty much the rest of your life as there is no cure yet for it. I know it sounds scary, but you can still live your life to the full as long as you get on a good treatment plan with a specialist :)

Wishing you all the best for the surgery :)

Thank you 😊 I don't really rate my doctors and he told me a few things then sent me away so I was very much in limbo with it all.. I can't eat much every mouthful going down feels like interjection and heartburn.. I have tums and gaviscon to help.. it's so much to take on.. I will have a look at that diet! Thank you very much x

Aw no! I can't stand doctors like that! I've been through quite a few til I found one that understood the torment my body was in. Ah heartburn is the worst! I get that when my endo flares up bad, it sucks so much! I found coconut water was really good for soothing it :) I found that as well as dairy and gluten, alcohol - especially wine and beer made my heartburn worse too.

I found the diet difficult at first, but once you adjust your shopping list around it, it's not so bad :) my favourite non dairy milk is rice milk - but a lot of people prefer almond or coconut milk :)

Oh lovely thank you very much! For months I get a bad aching pain in my shoulder when I drink alcohol I don't know if it's related.. but now I'm so unsure on everything soon as something in my body happens I'm jumping to conclusions! I'm sure I'll be fine just sort a few things out.. thank you for your help x
