Mood swings

Hi, I'm just wondering if anyone out there is suffering with extreme mood swings.

I'm 42, and had a laparoscopy back in March to remove a large chocolate cyst (9cm) which was causing me excruciating pain, I felt like I had a constant UTI and bowel movements were very painful, I had constant pressure pain until I had my op. I also had my left ovary and Fallopian tube removed at the same time. I felt alright for a few weeks afterwards, my periods became regular again and the pain disappeared. However, 3 months on I seem to turn into a monster every month, snapping and shouting at my poor family for the smallest of things. I'm aware I'm doing it, but can't seem to be able to stop it, or have any control over it, they've all noticed how bad I am since my op and it seems to be getting worse. Also the UTI symptoms I was suffereing with before my op is back. I went to my gp and explained about my mood swings, painful swollen breasts each month and UTI symptom returning. She suggested the mirena coil, but I'm not keen on that as I know a few people have said it can make your symptoms worse. She decided to put me on the mini pill, so I have been taking that for a week now but so far no change with my moods, I know it's early days but would like to know if the mini pill has helped anyone else who has been suffereing mood swings since losing an ovary. Keep thinking that maybe a full hysterectomy maybe the answer as I have 2 children and am not planning on having anymore. Would love to hear from anyone who has been through similar or experiencing it right now, it's so hard to know which way to turn :(

Hi Karen,

Thanks for replying, i'm so sorry to hear you've been through all that.

It's nice to hear from someone who's had everything out and is now benefiting from doing so.... All I keep hearing is how we need our ovaries and you shouldn't have them removed unless absolutely necessary, but I had no choice as my cyst was large and had damaged my left side, I was told that my right side looked healthy enough (back in March) but I'm now getting bad pain in my right side and the mood swings are awful, plus the UTI's have started to return.... I just keep thinking I have another 10 years of this 😩

I'm so pleased you no longer get suffer with the mood swings, thanks for sharing your story it defo helps x

I'm so pleased I was a help. My cyst was on the right side and was 3.5kgs & had Cancer in it. I had an amazing Surgeon & if it wasn't for the cyst growing so fast I would have never known I had Ovarian Cancer so infact the cyst growing saved my life really....take care & hopefully you will be pain free too...x
