I had very painful periods with terrible cramping to the extent that I had to lie down for a few days each month. I looked up my symptoms on the internet and thought I might have endometriosis so I explained all this to the doctor. The GP then decided to do an ultrasound scan where they found a cyst which suspected as being an endometrioma. I was then referred to a gynaecologist who then decided to do a laparoscopy. They diagnosed endometriosis with the lap and treated it at the same time. If you suspect you have it, I would write a pain and symptom diary and ask your GP to be referred to a gynaecologist who specialises in endo at a BSGE centre who you can show this to. I hope this helps.

I have always suffered from horrendous painful and heavy periods, I thought this was normal but when I became sexually active with my current and only boyfriend 6 years ago I noticed that intercourse was painful, I thought this was normal and that my body may have to get used to this different thing that was happening.

The pain never eased off and I Google'd my symptoms and saw endometriosis.

I went to see my gp and he asked what I thought it was and I said that I thought I had endometriosis. He sent me for an ultrasound scan which was normal and I was then referred to a gynaecologist who said he wanted to do a diagnostic laparoscopy.

I was diagnosed with endometriosis in February 2015. xx

hiya.

I had very painful periods, sometimes with heavy bleeding. Almost every day I have a dull period type ache in my stomach and lower back, that intensifies if I walk or do too much activity. Sometimes I have horrid period type cramps when I'm not on my period. I get random sharp stabbing pains in my stomach. I bloat really badly sometimes. I also get really bad pain around my hip bones when I walk, and also get fatigue. I found out I had endo when my gp sent me to a gynecologist and they performed a laparoscopy. I've recently had the coil fitted which is supposed to help with the pain, but so far not noticing any difference :(

If you have any of these symptoms, go and see your GP and they should refer you to be seen by a gynecologist.

Take care
