Mirena stopped working

I had a mirena 8 months ago, following surgery which did not relieve symptoms. I had grade 3 endo. About a month after the mirena it was like a miracle. I have been pain free for 6 months. About 3 weeks ago to my dismay the old symptoms are back. I'm hoping this is just a blip. Does anyone have any experience like this?

Hi lovely, I had a terrible time with the coil, I had it in for 18 months all pain free all my symptoms disappeared it was bliss never felt so good then wam bam I had loads of horrible side effects and had to have it removed and since then my symptoms have gotten worse. I am awaiting in a lap 😢😢😢😢 they do say try it out for at least a year though to see how you get on, seem to gear it works wonders. For some and not for others xxx

Hi, The mirena was perfect for me. I had over 6, blissful, pain-free years until I had it removed. I'm now post-menopause, so have not had another one fitted, but so far the endo and pain has all stayed away.

Are you sure you have not lost it? It does happen a lot!! But if it is still there, sadly this does happen to some people: ... that the chemicals in the mirena are not enough ... or the body reacts for some reason.

If you have to go back for more endo treatment, make sure you are referred to one of the 'specialist endo centres' in the UK (I'm assuming you are in UK, sorry if not), as these (BSGE) centres have gynaecologists who are specifically highly trained in all forms of examination, diagnosis and removal of endo - general gynaes do not have this level of expertise. Check posts on here about this.

Thank you - it's def still there, so unfortunately not that. I will have a Google on the specialist centres - I didn't know about these.
