Being a police officer with endo...?

Hi lovely ladies!

So I'm joining the police in July but my excitement is dampened by my fear of what it'll be like to be a police officer with endo.

I'm currently on my period and, for the last two days, I've been a zombie popping co-codamol and clutching to my hot water bottle. How am I going to be able to do that when I'm a copper?!

I guess I'm wondering if there are any ladies on here who are in the police and also suffer with endo. Or, perhaps, more broadly, I'm concerned about starting my adult working life (I'm a 21 year old Masters student at present!) and dealing with endo and the pain that comes with it...

Love and healing thought to you all xxx

Hi. I'm a PCSO. I'm just waiting for my 1st lap to confirm my endo.

A few tips though...I have 2 size trousers as I suffer from bad bloating and the last thing you want mid shift is tightness round your belly.

My Sgt knows about my condition. He had never heard of it but I filled him in and I find on bad days it helps to just let him know as I can be very tired. I certainly find they have been fantastic with Dr and hospital appointment's.

I asked the Dr for some non drozy medication...I can't remember the name but can find it.

I don't know your shift pattern but I get 4 days off in the force I'm in. If I'm mid episode i take full advantage of these and use it to rest.

I personally find being active actually helps so the job for me actually can work in my favour.

Like any job the mood swings affect me as the pain just gets to much. I'm very lucky to have a good shift and I've been open about the possible condition and try to make light of when I snap or maybe not myself.

Hope this helps in some way😊. And good luck. I love being in the job...nearly 10 years now

Hi Lucy,

Thank you so much for your reply and your tips, I really appreciate it.

I'm going to be joining Surrey Police and they also have 4 rest days following 6 days on so I will definitely make the most of those rest days.

How fab that you've been in the police for so long! I'm so excited to start.

Thank you again so much for your message :)

No worries. It's daunting enough I remember my 1st day on shift. If you want any other advice just give me a shout.
