Help! Not sure what it means.

I was diagnosed with endometriosis last year however my gynaecologist never referred me for a laparoscopy as I was 18 and she worried about the scarring. However now the pain is much worse also during my cycle the left side of my belly button dips and bruises. Has anyone else experienced this? I'm very confused and worried mentioned it to gp many times and they don't even look. Finally being referred back to my gynaecologist but I have no idea what they can do for me.

Hi how were you diagnosed?

My gynaecologist found some endometriosis tissue during a pelvic exam on my cervix and said that she could do it on that, from what I've read it didn't sound like what was normally done but that's how she did it. We didn't do the laparoscopy as she said the scarring could lead to trouble for me down the line as I was young and they'd just have to keep going in. I've had no one to talk to about it so have no idea if it was normal or not. They put me on the pill back to back.

If the endo is fully excised by a specialist surgeon at a BSGE centre then the chances of reoccurrence should be minimal.

Unfortunately until you have a lap you won't know the extent of the endo, and going on the pill etc will only really mask the symptoms.

Hi there, I had my first lap at 16 yrs old. Although with any operation there is always a risk of scarring, I can say from my experience, that the relief I experienced after my laps far outweighed the risk of scar tissue x

My gynaecologist made it sound like if I went for the lap the scarring would be a really big problem, thank you that's reassuring as i think that might be where we are heading this time x
