Gp suggests the coil while waiting to see gynea

Hi , my GP suspects I have endometriosis and has put me on the wait list to see gynea. She suggested I get the coil while I wait. I'm already on the mini pill (the combined pill makes me sick) which helps a little . Do you think it's worth a try?

anything is worth a try but you need to weigh up the pros and cons for you.

I had it fitted before i had kids and it didn't work at all for me. I went into cervical shock, put on 3 stone in 6 months and went suicidal but it does work for some so dont let horror stories put you off.

I'd try it and go from there. Just do as doctor says to and you should be ok.

Good luck and hope you get a diagnosis soon xx

How is the progestogen only pill working for you? Do you know how long you might have to wait and how much pain are you in?

The pill is ok, no nasty side effects so far. Had a lot of spotting but no pain. Just an ache and period pain for these past two weeks which I'm getting fed up with. I've only just started my 4th packet so maybe I'll give it another couple of months to see how it goes . Looks like there's a long wait list for gynea too. I hate the idea of having the coil fitted and upsetting things even more

Before the mini pill I was getting awful pain and passing out so things have improved in that sense but st the moment it isn't enough. Maybe it'll settle

Hi, if your pain has improved on the pill then i would stay on it. It may improve more or it may not but the spotting should settle down. from my experience and from what i understand the mirenal coil wont give you anymore relief than the pill. it releases less hormones than the pill and it can be less effective in terms of helping with pain than the pill. The coil can also take upto 6 months to settle down. It also doesnt work for everyone. As the pill is giving you some relief i think i would manage the rest of your pain with painkillers and wait to see a gynae. If gynae do a laparoscopy if you wanted you could have a coil fitted during your lap as once you have had endo treated it is very good at helping prevent the regrowth of endo. It would also save you going through the pain of having it fitted.

That's good advice thankyou !

Thats ok. also if you have been on a progestogen only pill for a while and are still on it when you have the coil fitted, the coil may settle more quickly as it releases the same hormone and your body will be used to it. Usually it is recommended that you complete the pill packet you are on once you have had the coil fitted.
