Laparoscopy stitches....?

Hi ladies,

Just a quick question but how long did your stitches last after your lap? I'm assuming everyone tends to have dissolvable stitches but I've seen a few ladies posts on here about having a doctor take them out because they didn't dissolve for a while. At what point would you see a doctor because I haven't been given any sort of indication of when they'll come out and I don't have a doctors appointment for another 6 weeks.

Xx

Hey I had my lap 2 weeks ago, I wasn't given dissolvable stitches so had mine taken out by the nurse yesterday. My nurse mentioned that when stitches are ready to come out they can often irritate the skin and become a little red. If you have dissolvable stitches and after 2 weeks this happens I'd suggest maybe going to see your gp xx

Thanks for your reply. I'm sure they said they were dissolvable but they didn't mention anything about when they should come out. Its already really starting to irritate my skin because theres a it knot at the end of the thread so I was hoping it wouldn't be too long. I did ring the gp today but they weren't any help at all! Xx

I had knots on all mine. Mine just kinda fell off after about 3 or 4 weeks.

I wasn't given any indication on if they were disolvable, or when they needed to come off. But if yours are irritating you maybe see a nurse/doctor. I found that the sticky dressings irritated the heck out of my skin.

Thanks, I just got a reply from the nurse at the day ward and she said if they don't seem to be dissolving after 2weeks I could consider making an appointment with the nurse to have them removed. Other than that I should be ok as long as they aren't really bothering me or I'm showing sign of infection like a fever or something. Xx
