I need your help.

Ever since I became sexually active almost everytime I have intercourse I experience pain. I've had a lot of problems trying to explain to doctors that it is a deep, sharp, jabbing pain not the burning caused by lack of lubrication they think I'm talking about. Eventually, it's been suggested that I might have endometriosis and I'm supposed to be getting a laparoscopy soon for diagnosis. But I'm worried. My mum thinks I shouldn't get it becuase she's had scars on her belly since she was 14 and hates them so much. I don't know what to do or if this pain is actually normal, this is my first sexual relationship and my boyfriend has a slightly larger than average penis (7.8 inches), and my doctor has asked me so few questions that I wonder if it's possible it's only hurting because he goes too deep, but then again the pain is so intense. I'd already come across endometriosis because the NHS description of sexual pain cause by endo was the most accurate discription Id found to what I feel, but there's nothing anywhere to tell me if that level of agony could be something else. Apart from painful periods I have no other symptoms, and all I have after intercourse is a dull aching that doesn't last very long. I can usually enjoy intercourse in missionary but as soon as he wants me on top or especially in doggy it's hard not to cry, but I've heard people with endo often find missionary the most painful and doggy the least. What if it's just a cycle of fear and pain. I'm just confused and I need some assurance from anyone with endo has similar symptoms to me, because at the moment I'm scared and worried that I'm completely wrong and about to give myself permanent scars for nothing. Please help, any experiance at all would be so appreciated.

Endometriosis-uk.org have some great information on having a laparoscopy.

It is understandable that you are worried if you haven't experienced anything like this before. It is the tiniest of incisions into your tummy and there will be virtually no evidence after you have had it.

You do need to make sure that you rest afterwards though because of what is involved. Speak to your gynaecologist about your concerns, they are usually good at reassuring you and giving you all the information you need beforehand.

I don't have pain during intercourse but I do get pain afterwards.

You are bound to worry but it is a good way of diagnosing your problem and then find thE correct treatment for you.

Hope it all goes ok for you x

Hi! I'm 21 and have had endo since I was 17, in December i started to experience these same problems, but any position is agony and I experience severe pain during and for around a week after, including bleeding too, which im not meant to do.

If your doctor would like to have a laparoscopy performed to investigate Its probably a good idea. My first operation was when I was 13 and I've had ten since and my scars are nothing to worry about :) they heal so well and so fast nobody ever notices them and they've been entered im the same spot three times!

I understand it's so scary the first time but it helps so much with the diagnosis and treatment and the recovery is pretty quick too! I was up and about the same day!

I hope you get sorted soon, I totally understand how frustrating it can all be!

Best wishes x

Thank you, that's really reassuring to hear. I'm 17 too and finding it all a bit scary at the moment, and having worries to do with genetics and ovarian/breast cancer genes as well, and endo puts those percentage risks up so much higher too. You start wondering if you're just making it all up in my own head out of worry. But it's good to know that the scars aren't anything to really worry about:) I know the symptoms are so different between women but you're right it's just all part of the diagnosis.

Thank you so much xx

I found when my BF went in and out and also when he was actually in there very painful. Then afterwards it felt like i'd been kicked in the stomach. Doctors suggested breathing exercises to do and to take things slowly but that didnt work for me. Now i have to take painkillers which kind of dulls the romance a bit and any spontaneity but it helps a lot. I just take 2 paracetemol and 2 ibuprofen and im all good. However i do think it was a bit psychological for me as i didnt take any painkillers once after months of having them every time we had sex and I was fine. A bit uncomfortable but i think i got myself so worked up i made it a lot worse for myself xx

Thank you, yes I know exactly what you mean about the kicked in the tummy sensation, but during intercourse. One phrase I find myself using a lot when trying to describe the pain is 'punched in the cervix'. Phycology and fear is surely playing a big part now but probably caused by an underlying problem. thank you xx

Hi I've been exactly the same with intercourse and I'm going for my 2nd lap next month. I wouldn't worry to much about the scares they are very small because it's key hole surgery. It does sound like endemetriosis tho and I was diagnosed with it in 2009 so been suffering ever since I've had all sorts for it. I have now got the mirena coil but still doesn't help with pain on intercourse that why I'm having another lap done. Hope this helps
