Some advice please..

Hello, I am due to have a laparoscopy next week and don't really know what to expect with regards to signing a consent form. I am really worried that when I'm put to sleep the surgeon is going to remove my ovaries or give me a hysterectomy and it will be out of my control. I am having a diagnostic lap for pelvic pain but I'm dreading not being in control as I am only 27 and want children in the future. So I was wondering if I could refuse for the surgeon to do anything during the lap or would it be better just to let him do what he needs to do? This is really worrying me and getting me down and I've got no one to talk to about this as no one understands. Thanks .

Hello, don't worry about things like that, before you have the lap he will get you to sign a form and on it it will say what he will do, mine said laparoscopy and removal of ENdo if found,

I actually do need a hysterectomy due to adenomyosis, but he wouldn't have been aloud to just go ahead and do it, without my consent.

Good luck and I hope you get the answers you need

Xxx

Thank you Tboag for your reply. I just didn't know what to expect as all I've been told is Im going to have a Lap and nothing about what they are looking for or what will happen on the day etc. xx

Try to relax, everything will get discussed with you on the day. Laps are usually used to identify and remove endo patches, establish the severity of it and identify if further procedures need to be carried out.

Anything major, like a hysterectomy or ovary removal, would never be done without discussing the findings with you first.

Talk to them on the day about any concerns, ask any questions you feel you need to. They will expect this and will put your mind at ease.

Good luck X

I recently did my consent form. She wrote 'diagnosistic laparoscopy +/- cautery treatment for endometriosis.' She explained to me that she would not remove anything and they would not wake me up to re consent me so it would be another operation if I needed that. They won't do anything like that without your consent first. Ask your Dr any questions to help put your mind at ease. Hope it goes well for you good luck x

Thank you miss_pollydoll for your rely. You have eased my worry! I think it's just the fear of the unknown. The surgeon also wants me to have the marina coil and I would prefer not to have it. Would I be able to tell him on the day that I don't want to consent to it?
