I had my second lap yesterday, which showed that my endo has gotten a lot worse since my last one, my right hand side of my bowel has a very big patch of endo, as does behind my womb and under my tube and ovarie on my left side, seeing that im 16 what kind of treatment could my doctor give to me? How long should I be off school?

Thank you xx

Hi did they remove your endo? That is the only thing to get rid of it. I've heard dietary changes cutting out wheat especially can help, you will be able to have the pill prescribed to you , I'm not sure about the coil due to your age , but I would ask seeing as the situation you are in . With school obviously it's best to have as little time as possible off, but you are best to make them aware of your situation so that they can be more helpful and understanding, not everyone has to know , just say your school medical nurse assuming they have one , or a female teach such as the head or deputy head, understanding sometimes the pain may make it impossible, with the lap I'd say around 2 weeks depending possibly more seeing how well you feel x Goodluck x

They didn't remove any of it because of where it is:( ive tried changing all of my diet, hasnt worked, been on the pill since I was 14, hasn't worked... thr doctor said that he doesn't want to give me the coil because im 16.. My schools very understanding of my Endo which im really lucky:-) thank you for your reply x

Get well soon and hope you have a speedy recovery from your op! I'm 18 so have been in similar situations with going back to school/college. My most important advice to give to you would be if you feel you need time off, take it, whether you don't feel physically or mentally ready to go back because your health and well being is much more important than missing a few days of school. I'm currently waiting for my next lap surgery and they're fitting me with a coil because the pill didn't work for preventing endo for me so that's always something you can look into? Hope this helps!

Hi, sorry to hear of your situation, how much pain are you in and how often?, have you tried any supplements or alternative therapys like acupuncture or massage, do you do excercis? I'm trying ginger tea, celenian and magnesium atm, can't say that it's helped yet but only a week in, also try having epson salt baths, again only tried that 3 times so far, I havnt been diagnosed by lap yet, still waiting for a date,

Hi just wondering at what age did you have your first lap? It's probably not the biggest form of treatment but hot baths and light massages can reduce the tenderness. I'm only 15 so struggle with school attendance too. Try and talk to your school about sending work home to you and also cutting some lessons out of your timetable which may not be as important x

hi, i was nearly 14 when i had my first lap, ive tried going for hot baths, exercising, changed my diet multiple times, nothing seems to be working.. im in the middle of my A/S which means i only have 14 lessons a week in stead of the 30 i had last year, but because of the stress and the amount of work i have to do it doesn't seem to be doing anything..

thank you for your reply x

Are you being seen by an endo specialist or a general gynae?

Did you know that on the NHS you have the right to choose your consultant? It's called Patient Choice.

Maybe if you aren't getting the help or treatment you need at the moment you can look at finding a specialist in your area that might be more help? A specialist that deals with the bowel as well might be able to do more for you.

Take care x

What hormonal treatment are you on? You need to cut down the number of periods you are having if possible. I took the pill back to back, three packs at a time which helped me better for a couple of years. I am now taking visanne which is a progesterone based drug that is supposed to stop periods and allow the endo to calm down.

You could certainly have the pill, Yasmin worked well for me ( but in the end started getting lots of migraines so came off it.)

Some people have the coil as it can stop periods and be removed later if you want to try for a baby.

Other drugs such as zolodex/lupron are very strong, put the body in menopause.

It's important you get good advice because otherwise endo gets worse and you have another 30 odd years of fertile life in front of you and may wish to have a family later.

Make sure you get a specialist in endo as a gynae and discuss long term treatment.
