Questions!

Hi all, I've been getting pain and clotting for around 18 months. I've also managed IBS for many years.

I've just had my 1st lapo and confirmation of endo last Tuesday. Apparently they found quite a lot and have had to leave some around my bowel as a lot of work had already been done. One ovary was attached to the side wall and 1 fallopian tube was blocked. I'm new to all this so have some questions as I'm not due to see the gynea for another 3 weeks.

Any advice would be great!

1. Could the IBS have been endo all along?

2. How long does the swollen belly normally last after the laparoscopy?

3. Is my next period after the lapo likely to be normal/abnormal?

Thanks ladies :) x

Hi, once been diagnosed ibs for over fifteen years and finally saw a specialist at a private hospital who said that he is pretty certain it is not ibs but the endo that causes all the symptoms that got me diagnosed as ibs. Not sure if that's true for everyone but he said it's a common mis diagnosis.

I was due my first lap in 9 days but yesterday found it I am pregnant. Wow! So not sure as to recover times for the opp, won't be having mine until after now but I wish you a speedy recovery. Don't rush though. X

Oh wow, that is AMAZING news! Congratulations!!!

I think the ibs might still be the case due to flare-ups with specific foods etc as well as a family history on the female side. What it has made me realise though is that ibs probably hasn't been totally to blame all these years and it was endo festering away!

Massive congrats to you and I wish you all the best

Hello!

I was diagnosed with ibs two years ago and diagnosed with endo last Friday. I have it over my bowels and rectum. I knew that atleast some of the pain wasn't normal ibs but I think I'm not ready to push the diagnosis of ibs away yet. They couldn't remove it and will be having another lap so I will see after that.

How is your diet, you say that there is specific food you have problems with? I'm definitely going to be stick with my clean eating diet after recovey ( I do already but unfortunately am a chocolate monster!) They say 70% of your immune system is in your gut so I'm definitely going to try getting better from the inside out!

I think your other two questions are very personal. It really depends on your body and also what you had done in your lap. I am 4 days past lap and my swelling is going down nicely I think. Also I'm not sure what to expect for my period. I'm on yasmin and usually makes my period less painful. If you were worried I guess maybe take an NSAID before hand to combat it

Thanks for your reply H.

My ibs is mostly triggered by fatty or rich food-especially tomatoes in bolognese etc. There are lots of other things that can set it off but I've learnt over 15 years or so, that small quantities of each keep it at bay. Not too much of anything seems to be the trick! Like you, I love my chocolate and fortunately my ibs doesn't mind me having it lol!

I've actually started my period this morning and its not much different so far. Still the usual pain but I'm sure thats a lot to do with my sore insides after the lapo!

We have been trying for a baby for 2 years now so I'm not on the pill. I had no symptoms of endo until about 6 months after I stopped taking yasmin. I guess my plan A is to get over this, try again to fall pregnant and then go back on yasmin at a later date. I am 33 and partner is 38 so we really would like to start a family soon. Fingers crossed!! All the best with your recovery xx
