Hi ladies, i have endo, I suffer from chronic pain, random bleeding and I'm soooo sick of it! I'm 22 fit and healthy, but this is wrecking my life! My gyno wants to put the mirena in, what's your opinion? What were your side effects?

Hi huni ok I have the mirena coil as my next step forward to getting sorted out. I have had mine 9months with no helpful effect. My advice is that unlike conventional 'normal sexual health' where you are told no periods & 6months to work. In reality you may have to wait 12-18months for it to really help you & some womens periods do stop but not all. Look at all options sweetie & I hope you feel better soon xx

Thankyou for your reply, I've done some research on the net and there seems to be more horror stories than good stories! :(

Is there anything else you have had that may be helpful to me, I do not want anything that's going to effect my chances of having a baby in the next year or 2 more than the endo has already done!

I personally have tried everything out there for my Endo. I've had it since I was 12 or 13 & am 23 now. The only thing that even somewhat remotely helped was the depo shot. But of course everyone's case is different. I know lots of girls who got the mirena and it worked great for them, but for me, I was in chronic pain & constantly bleeding with it. I loved the depo, but had to stop cuz of the weight gain interfering with another genetic condition I have. I hope everything works out for ya!!!

I had a mirena coil fitted when I had my last lap. I did bleed for a couple of months almost continuously (I personally didn't have much pain with that), but now that I am through that I haven't had any side effects and the occasional bleeding is small. I have it to try and slow down my endo growth in the future rather than control my periods, but I am one of the people who hasn't had much trouble with it at all, and I was petrified before they put it in and desperately tried not to Google it as I had already read horror stories before.

For me, I thought it was worth a go and they could always remove it if I couldn't stick it. If you can get through the first few months they say it will be great.

Hi the consultant suggested the mirena coil or depo injection to me after my diagnosis... I'm not to sure why specifically them two because I have read online that the pills have helped people too.

I am put off the coil because it's could be painful to fit, it can get dislodged and be non effective/painful and cause bleeding until it settles. Apparently the show you how to feel and check it is in position... Well if we can check it surely our partners will feel it during intercourse?!

The injection worries because it can also take time to settle but it can take over a year to leave your system if you want to have a baby. Plus I hate needles!

I am going to my local sexual healthy clinic this thurs eve to discuss my contraceptive options (may go for combined pill) I chose to go here rather than my GP as I feel that the clinic deals with contraception all day every day so may be more knowledgable than my village GP surgery! X

I'm due to have a mirena coil on Thursday... not looking forward to it at all. Can't see how it will help with the symptoms. I've heard mixed things about it but willing to give it a go. I've also tried different types of pill but no effect either x

Thankyou so much for your replies ladies, there is so many pros and cons I still don't know what to do! I might just have to try it and see how it effects me!

I wish there was a magic pill that took it all away!!!

Just bear in mind that there will always be more 'horror stories' on the internet than good ones. Few people bother to go online to rave about how wonderful their Mirena is! I've only had mine for 2 months but am liking it so far. I'd say give it a go - you can always have it taken out again.

Hi I am 22 i was in the same boat as u I saw my gynae two months ago iv tryed different pills since I was 16 non helped infact they seemed to aggravate things. So consultant said really I should have the coil traihjy away I said no like u I had heard some awful stories after my mum persuaded me to give it ago I decided to go to a clinic to get it fitted my uterus is tilted n I haven't had children I'm not going to lie to u it was the worst experience of my life never felt pain like it in reflection they did say u should ask about specialist gynae putting it in or mayb with some sedation as I needed to b cut. I was in terrible pain until about a week ago where it's calmed dwn a lot I still get terrible pain worse than pre coil fitting and I'm still bleeding from it being put in, but I have spoke to a lot of women who say it's like this for 6 months to a year but they say if u stick it out it's the best thing that's happened to them but like u I want mine removed in a year or two because I want to go to a fertility clinic to try for children so I'm trying to weigh up weather it's worth sticking it out as by the time it works I will n having it removed but I dnt want the endo to grow as iv just had another lap so it is very difficult n no one in the medical profession really has any other options to help I have a check up on coil in a week so I tlk with doctor c if it's best to leave it in or have it out. If u haven't tried the pill I would say try that first it didn't work for me but most ppl it does a good one that did work was dianette it was amazing but u can only be on it for 6 months which is a shame hope this helps x

Hi I'm 24, i was diagnosed with endo over 3 years ago and fitted with mirena coil during my first lap. Whilst i did bleed for around 2/3 months solid after getting it fitted the rest of the time iv had it has given me my life back. Periods and symptoms practical vanished, sometimes irregular spotting occurred but that was about it. Too add no your partner will not be able to feel it during sex, the coil is fitted above the cervix and its only the stings that hang below this. Unfortunately all good things come to an end, my coil seems to be 'running out' and looks like i will be needing another lap soon. I know everyone's different but my personal opinion is that the pros outweigh the cons with the mirena coil for me. x
