I am on the gnrh monthly injections and was told before I started them that I would be having prostap. Just had 3rd injection and found out I'm actually on decapeptyl. Are they similar does anyone know of any differences apart from the cost
What's the difference between prostap and... - Endometriosis UK
What's the difference between prostap and depapeptyl?
They do exactly the same thing. Different manufacturers, and slightly different chemical ingredients, but from a side effects point of view - exactly the same.
They both overload the pituitary gland causing it to shut down production of several hormones. It is the effect of not having those hormones that causes all the side effects.
So very little difference at all.
Some of the GnRH drugs are administered as a nasal spray, some by implanted pellet, some by injections etc. The methods of getting them in to the body are the biggest difference.
Also is the availability factor in one area of the world versus another depending on the pharmaceutical companys' marketing campaigns or clinical trial phases.
Thank you for you reply that has put my mind at ease
