Hi im a newbie and so relieved I have found this site. Had 2 lap ops for endo last year...and in January this year I was given prostap for 6 months. Had to stop in March as I was so ill with it and pain was still there. Gynocologist has now referred me to bowel specialist as he says it cant be endo that's causing the pain as it would go with prostap and also endo cant spread to bowel and bladder. Was rushed in last sat with abdominal pain and unable to pass urine...was cathatorised and sent home two days still in pain and put on antibiotics, movicol and fibre gel etc as my xray shows my bowel very full...they have also referred me to urologist as well now...in the middle of all that my periods returned after the prostap...could it all be linked ? im still in a lot of pain and doc just says its a waiting game and put me on more antibiotics....Has anyone suffered similar symptoms.

Hi. Your gynaecologist could not be more wrong in telling you that endo can not spread to bowel and bladder. This would suggest that s/he is very inexperienced with endo. It is not uncommon at all to have these places affected. I have both bowel and bladder endo. Prostap does not help everyone with endo and even if it did - if endo has affected a bowel it may have caused constrictions due to adhesions etc. The associated pain would therefore not necessarily go away because the endo itself was under more control. I am not saying this is what has happened in your case. However, being fobbed off with 'mysterious' bowel symptoms is one of the most common things that women go through with endo. If the bowel specialist does not help ask for a second opinion from a different gynae.
Hi I have a v similar history, had some endo removed in November, pain returned almost straight away and tried prostap. That made me much worse, loads of side effects and bleeding throughout so stopped it after 3 months. My specialist said couldn't be endo related so sent me to a gastro. He did some tests but I was always convinced it was gynae so I researched and found a new consultant for a second opinion. He did a lap on me 2 days ago and I had endo on bowel bladder appendix pelvic wall, a kinked bowel and other problems. I don't understand why specialists keep fobbing us off but I'm so relieved since having the second lap that finally I have some answers. Pls push for a second gynae opinion if you can.
What a day....well after chasing the hospital referrals have found that they havent done them....so after lots of phone calls later my own doctor is doing them for me....off to get some appointment dates tomorrow so hopefully it wont be to long....have also asked for second opinion from another gynocologist.....so fingers crossed we maybe on track somewhere....thanks for the advice hope we all get the answers we need x
