On a lighter note...

Hey guys,

So over the last few weeks I've actually found myself talking to the pain. Yes, you read that right. Anything from pleading with it to go away, thanking it if it does give me some release, to general cursing. Does anybody else do the same?! Was thinking of giving the pain a name other than "you f#*#*#r"! Any suggestions lol? And yes, I think I've finally cracked up :-/

Hope I've raised a smile if nothing else

Xxx

I'm a psychotherapist and what you are doing is a technique that is actually known to be helpful for people with chronic pain as well as many other issues. So definitely carry on if it's helpful for you :-)

Wow that's really interesting! Not sure if it's helpful or not but it's definitely something to laugh about afterwards :-)

I talk to mine too mainly when I get the pain in my ovaries I say " yes you don't have to remind me I know you're still there" I also plead in a morning to have a pain free day.

No you are not cracking up ! This is a well used technique, as Karen says.I am seeing a herbalist, who also does other complementary approaches and speaking to my pain is what she told me to do ! Our bodies have an innate wisdom - often it is called bodymind - and if we befriend our pain, bodies they will tell you why you are in pain. I am am doing some deep emotional healing work and have had the most amazing dreams .It is very similar to the Buddist idea of kindly awareness - recognising the pain but not allowing your mind to make it worse. When we are in pain, stress and panic ,quite naturally take over. Meditation can really help though you have to work at it.

If anyone wants to try and talk with your pain...

Before you go to sleep, say to your pain -What are you trying to tell me?Yes ,you will feel crazy and an answer may not come immediately but you will be amazed.

I asked the same question every night for 3 nights, but was not able to sleep through pain so didn't think I was any further forward. But on the 4 th night I had an incredible dream( I rarely remember my dreams) which described the exact feelings of my pain and why it was raging. All of a sudden my pain was saying it is very angry at me and very hurt,as I have such feelings of hatred and frustration towards my body and it is not my enemy, but my friend. My pain is the bodys way of alerting me that something is not right and needs dealt with. But I came out of that dream feeling so grateful to my body, for all it has brought me through. It has been through enormous trauma since the age of 14yrs.All this time my body( though in pain) has worked overtime to heal me and deal with the breakdown of all my body systems( also have ME ,asthma ,allergies and had Meningitis which nearly killed me).I was .till now so angry at my body which I feel has let me down so badly and limited my life. I suddenly realised that my body carried my 2 wonderful children(despite the problems caused by endo) and the births, although CS enabled their safe delivery.

So the dream told me to see my body as a friend ,albeit a sick and feeble one. How would I treat a friend who is ill ?TLC ! I would not blame a friend for the pain she was in,but would try to comfort her/him. Comfort includes whatever will help other the pain -pills,water bottles,Tens meditation and also educating yourself about endo and other conditions you have.Comfort also includes ths wonderful forum, where we are all on different stages of the endo journey but there is always someone who can help you not to feel so alone.

I am still in 24/7 pain and disabled on crutches and wheelchair, but since that answer I feel that I must not waste anger on my body buy must treat it with great compassion.

Maybe others could try this question?

I do that to lost count of the times I have honestly said things like " pain gtf not got time for you today" and " you will not ruin my day" as well as many other things :) can't tell you how much I love this forum it always make me feel better . And your certainly made me smile! :) x

My endometriosis is called the friendly allien. My children named it that!

I do talk to him ( only a "him" could cause so much aggravation! )....usually the second of the two words is ..... Off !

I was recommended to feel into the pain to try and touch it with my mind and allow it to speak to me. It is a Buddhist technique around mindfullness. It does help, strange as it may seem :-B
