Ive seen my gynae, and he has scheduled me for my ultrasound and possible laproscopy depending on whats found in my ultrasound.
Im currently on Micronor - which is a progesterone only pill that i take every day. i have really bad cramps when i have my period - sometimes its stupidly heavy, other times i bleed for a day, or just have a brownish colour discharge, but i would say at least 20 days a month i have mild-sleep disrupting cramps (which as you can imagine is pretty irritating).
Anyway... my gynae suggested switching to the Mirena Coil, which i must admit I'm a little sceptical about as in the nicest way possible... my hormones make me pretty much horrible to be around when the time of the month is bad, and I'm terrified it may make it worse. Some people have great stories, others i must admit have scarred me for life, but I'm just desperate to not be in any sort of pain anymore.
I spoke to my family planning clinic last night and explained what the gynae suggested, and so they have booked me in for tuesday - i was sort of stunned and so just agreed but now I'm getting really worried.
Any help would be amazing - whether you've tried both or know the pain is lesser on one or the other... I'm just terrified of becoming a mega b**** and having more pain than now.
Thanks
Emma xxxx

I've tried loads of different pills but found they didn't help and in the end made me so much worse! I had my Mirena fitted on 15th October and I really don't regret it at all.
I found the first couple of weeks after having it fitted hard - I was fairly emotional and had really bad stomach cramps.. but this could also be down to having Endo removed at the same time as having it fitted. Since then I haven't had pain or cramps everyday, when I do get them it's about 70% less painful and my periods have stopped, so I don't have to worry about that pain and I don't seem to be getting mood swings/PMT!
I guess it works differently for everyone, but I'd say give it a try, you can always get it taken out if you find it too bad
Thats great to hear Pixie23! Im so worried about having it turn me into a horrible person to be around for months on end, and plus i will have it in over christmas, and i go on holiday in Feb so I'm hoping it doesn't affect me too much! Thank you x
Hi Emma-Louise, I agree with Pixie. No harm in trying the merina coil.. evidently it works for a lot of women and you can always have it taken out if it doesn't work for you. I'm thinking of having one fitted too so I would be interested to know how you get on. I'm currently on norethisterone which is progesterone and I take it three times a day. I can't take the combined pill cos I have migraines and am over 40. I've been in constant pain for 6 weeks now (they say I have ovarian cysts) and my GP is trying, as she put it, "to stop my periods". So far after 9 days my pain is starting to decrease and I'm thinking well at least I'm not getting any worse. I'm in the same situation as you - I have another ultrasound coming up and then a possible laproscopy. I do hope things ease up for you soon whatever decision you make and you're all better for your holiday in February
Hi Curlyjo, I've been speaking to my boyfriend and he put a few things into perspective for me, and I'm thinking about maybe not having it done until after my holiday. It does seem a little bit of a rush getting the coil fitted straight after my ultrasound, as i ought to wait and see what the results are really.
If i do have it done though i will be sure to let you know how i get on Thanks x
