Prostap monthly injection side effects, are they bad?

Very nervous about using prostap as have spent many hours looking at the reviews, more scary than good! I have fibroids and terrible pmt, heavy and painful periods which last for 8 days. Specialist recommended this with hrt as well. Unsure....? Wondering about the herbal route rather than synthetic drugs.

Hi,

I've just today had my second injection of pro strap. Its my second go on it ( not including the three months before IVF) I would really recommend it....but I've also heard the other side of this. It is a powerful medication that is not to be taken lightly..my only side effects? Hot flushes! If I'm out of pain however this is a really small price to pay.

I am one of those people who live in the moment! I am also aware of the long term effects of this medication...which can be very unpleasant later on in life.

Its very difficult to make the choice. I can only give you my experience of prostrap many others would disagree! You have to do what is right for you.

Xx

I'm currently at the end of my course of prostap and I also think its ok, depending on the circumstances I would do it again. I have had a lot of side effects and it took about 7-8 weeks for it to kick once it did it did I was almost completely pain free. Side effects wise I thin I had nearly all of them, hot flushes, night sweats, sleeplessness, achey joints, headaches and bad weight gain but in the bigger picture I'm still glad I did it. I had a mix of 1 and 3 month doses and overall had 11 months worth. Beforehand I had hit rock bottom, couldn't cope with the pain, was regularly passing out and the heavy bleeding was making me feel awful. I stopped bleeding the day of the first injection and haven't had a period since, so for me I feel that the side effects were worth the break its given me. Beforehand I couldn't leave the house but whilst on the injections I've been on 4 holidays! It just wouldn't have been possible without the injections. The only thing I had an issue with was hrt, I was given hrt after 6 months as the standard position is that due to the licence you can only stay in it longed than 6 months if you start taking hrt at 6 months. However I had breakthrough bleeding from the hrt which I was not at all happy about as the while point was to stop me bleeding. Thankfully my consultant agreed I could stop the hrt and it also looks like I was given the wrong version. I also struggled a bit with the actual injections, having the injection was fine but I had quite a bad localised reaction each time which is why I switched to the 3 month doses as I ended up at home for a day after each injection.

Whether its right for you will depend on your own circumstances and what you're hoping it will achieve, but it is a powerful drug and not a cure, if simply pauses things for the time you are in them. Although overall I'm glad I had them, if you can cope with painkillers then it may not be worth it.

The reason you're reading more horror stories than happy endings is because when things go right it doesn't occur to anybody to post about it. When it goes wrong however, people want to tell the world...

There are ladies on this site who have had horrible experiences with Prostap and its cousins. But equally there are women - like the ladies above, and me - who have had positive experiences.

You won't know until you try it for yourself how it's going to affect you. But when the pain gets too much for me to handle with painkillers, I will go back to the injections. Yes, it means a whole new set of 'problems' - in my case hot flushes, mood swings and headaches - but it gives me a break from the pain...

Good luck
