Hi I finished my prostap injections last month here is my experience I hope it helps.....

At the start of my injections I bleed for 5 weeks it was pretty painful and I did wonder why on earth I was doing it! But my doctor said to stick with them as it can get worse before it get better, I had the marina coli also and they put me on menopause patches I stopped these as I felt my emotions were supercharged and was fine with the injections and coil, after 3 months pain had demised to barely anything compared to what I had been experiencing, I had started to get the hot flushes and night sweats but again compared to the pain before it was bearable and worth it, I had another flare for a week at 5 months but it settled by the time I came to the end of my injections I was pain free but very sweaty lol and did have to use lube for intercourse as unfortunately things do dry up a little down stairs my joints were also a bit stiff but before I'd had the injections I'd told my doctor I don't want children and I couldn't cope like this any longer I wanted a full hysterectomy and now after my injections I've never been happier I'm pain free and want to start a family, yes there are some horrible side affects but for me they were all worth it and a month post injections I am still pain free all side effects have pretty much stopped and my moods have mellowed.

You should also only be on the injections for 6 months at a time as it can affect your bone density and cause osteaprouses no idea how you spell that so check with your doctor that it is defiantly safe for you to be on them for such a long time with no break.

I hope this helps you xxxx

Hi, can I ask how soon your bleeding started after your 1st injection. I had my 1st on the 4th October, and am having what I presume is my period???? It is the heaviest and most painful I have had in a while. I am on a 3 month course and then a month without to see if the pain I have stops, if it does then I will have my remaining ovary removed and assume my womb.

Thedogsmother maybe it is safe as 3 monthly injections for eighteen months works out at 6 injections which is what I had as monthly ones but that's just an idea no fact behind that!

I am on prostap at the minute. For me it is a life saver. It stopped my Endo pains within the first week. I get mthly injections and i do not take hrt. I do notice though that in the last week of the injection it starts to wear off but as soon as i have the next injection i am ok again.

hot flushes and night sweats make you feel like you are constantly abroad on holiday! I have a big fan in my bedroom that really helps. I get achy knees, forgetfulness, i had mild headaches for the first few weeks but that stopped, i get occasional chest pains, dry skin and frizzy hair.

luckily i haven't put on any weight but some ppl do. For me these side effects have been fine, they sound bad when you read them but they don't interfere with my life in any way and are heaven compared to Endo pains!

i skip to the doctors to get my injections! The injection itself does hurt and it gives me a dead arm for a couple of hours but its soon forgotten and things are good. Emotion wise i feel the sanest i have ever felt in my life, it feels like a dark cloud was lifted from me the moment i started the injections.

good luck and try not to worry. If you could get the monthly injections then you can stop taking the injection a lot quicker if it doesn't agree with you. My consultant sent my gp a letter saying i should have the three mth one but my gp said to me i shud gave the mthly one so i have always got a "get out quick" back up if i need it whereas the three month one obviously takes longer to get out of your system x
