I have been a sufferer of Endo for 20+ years. I have been very lucky to have had 3 children.
Today I had a scan and was told the the cyst on my right ovary was still there but had not grown significantly since my last scan. I also have a fibroid or adeymosis in my womb. The radiographer couldn't for certain tell me what it was.
What I was also told was that my left ovary is stuck behind my womb. I have never had this said to me before and wondered if any of you have been in a similar situation and what treatment options there are available ?
Adenomyosis is so very similar to endo, it is when endo-like cells grow inside the muscle walls of the uterus and bleed with each period and the blood is trapped there causing pain and swelling. The solution for that is hysterectomy. it doesn't spread beyond muscle tissue, unlike endo which can plonk itself down just about anywhere and cause problems.
If your family is complete, then hysterectomy is the solution, but leaving ovaries in place to protect the bones and heart and stop you hving to take HRT.
Stuck ovaries are ever so common with endo..It is caused by the scar tissue called adhesions which grow from any damage inside your tummy, whether caused by a burst cyst, endo, surgery, pregnancy, trauma on the tummy of any kind can cause adhesions to grow which is your body building up a barrier of protective tissue.
It is very gluey (hence called adhesions) and very tough too, and it keeps on growing till it reaches neighbouring tissues like a spiders web it starts connecting all sorts of tissue and organs glueing them together and round them, sometimes contricting the bowel and the vagina and cervix and sticking the bowel to the uterus and the bladder too.
Adhesions are a pest. We do need them to some degree, but no one has yet invented a way to stop them growing once they start.
In your case the ovary has jiggled about and the adhesions from something have trapped it to the back of the uterus in the POD (pouch of douglas) and it will not be very effective being stuck down there.
Surgery can cut through the adhesions and cut them back, but they will grow again.
There are barriers that can be put inside you between organs to keep them separated if the new adhesions look like they may do the same thing again.The adhesions would grow to the barrier and not be able to get past or round it for some time to come hopefully.
It's not a perfect soluion but it can help.
All my organs were glued to each other with adhesions, and i know most of the ladies on this forum with advanced endo have similar probs with adhesions. Often they are more of a nuisance than endo itself is.
If you have a fibroid instead of adeno (adenomyosis) then it is easier to treat. or surgically remove.
Thank you impatient. Your reply was very informative. Can I ask you if you think the bowel could be by stuck with adhesions from my left ovary? I have been having bowel symptoms also.
If the ovary is glued to the back of the uterus it is probably also glued to the front of the bowel and rather wedged in between the two. Adhesions keep growing, so if it isn't already stuck to the bowel it will be soon enough.
That is why they will want to release that ovary and get it back where it is meant to be, and hopefully free up the bowel from the uterus and stick some kind of anti-adhesion barrier between the two. It will mean surgery but hopefully giving you a lot of relief afterwards and better loo trips too.
Can a woman still have babies if their ovaries are stuck like that. My gf just found this out.. She's always had super bad cramps during her period and has bad ibs.she is so scared because we do want to have babies one day. I want to help her In any way and learn more about this.
my ovaries are stuck to each other (kissing ovaries, sounds such a nice term lol) they are also stuck to my bowel, and yes pretty much everything is stuck together. straight after my lap they put me on the waiting list for a hysterectomy but i have since asked if i can postpone this and see how i go, but should my bleeding continue as it is then i will have to give in and go ahead, but my plan will be to ask them to leave my ovaries, i know they will say this will cause the endo to grow back, but i know i definitely do not want hrt. i'm lucky that i get to my see my consultant every three months in his endo clinic to keep an eye on how i'm doing.
just make sure you do plenty of research on the various treatments, if my bleeding subsides then i will keep postponing my hysterectomy, as most women that have had it done for endo usually end up in the same pain within two years post op xx
I have just been told the same thing today, after having removal of an endometrioma last year, i had a follow up scan today. they have told me my left ovary is stuck to my womb and i also have another endometioma on my left ovary too.
i just wish my consultant would agree to give me a hysterectomy despite me being young and have no kids. im fed up with suffering
Hi everyone. Today I went to my Physical Therapist for my shoulder nerve pain he's been working on. We started chatting about how I am trying to conceive with my partner (for the last 8 months or so) and he asked if he could check my ovaries positions to see if they were all lined up well. He told my my right was fine, but the left was a bit stuck, and my fallopian tubes were compressed. He said he sees this a lot and he is 9/9 for women who have come to him trying to conceive. It's not his focus in treatment, but he just happens to have clients that brought it up. It's fascinating! My point of all this, is to check out a PT or other Nerve Mobilization/Nerve flossing expert. His website is Rehab and Revive if you search online you will see it. He told me my lower torso should not concave, but convex a little, and it wasn't at all! Now it is! Amazing. Just try this before surgery! I had cysts at age 20 that hemorrhaged and I had laparoscopy twice that year, the first emergency, the second was exploratory for PCOS and ENDO.
Hi hope your well, Im a mummy too of three lovely children...been diagnosed and had endo for 7 years and had surgery to remove the adhesions about 5 years ago. Its been a year since our yoingest was born and now the symptoms are more and more noticible. I tried to go pill free and that was like mureder literally each month was traumatisingly painful. I didnt realise i was in so much pain so i started the combined pill again...GP sent me for a scan and confirmed the endo returned because my left ovary is stuck to the wall of my uterus! Had an examination on monday and i couldnt believe how painful that was. Had a smear at the same time and i couldnt handle the pain, so its obviously got much worse. Im thinking surgery is the only option right? How is it treated? I get pullimg pains from my groin are down through my legs so often...i literally have no time for this endo rubbish lol...wish it were that easy to dimsiss x
I had a laparoscopic partial hysterectomy a 5 weeks ago they found my ovaries stuck together and the endometrosis but wasnt seen in my MRI back in july ....? Weird but ive had cysts on my ovaries for the last 14 yrs Im sure the IUD mirena was the culprit. But got it because my monthly was so bad i thought i would die
Ive always had low back pain and now in the last week it has gotten worse. And now im having cramp like pains i know im still healing but damn i dont like pain.
