I went off the pill approx 12 months ago-my specialist said its my choice, but never gave me any advice or information as to how to tell if/when I'm ovulating etc-so I tried to plot my own chart it was often confusing, and google often leads one down very confusing winding paths-we also did not always have sex during the right time (according to my estimations) now I'm either gonna go on visanne or try for one more month, even though my periods are getting worse as the months progress save the three months when I had accupuncture-so what to do???how can I tell for sure when I'm ovulating?wish my specialist could have given me the advice I really needed!

Go to your local family planning clinic. Or look up your local fertility clinic. Fertility clinics are usually private but they are experts in what they do.

Btw how did you find the acupuncture and why did u stop it??? Ive just started it

Hi Hope2heal

I am in a similar boat as you and am too trying to conceive. I am finding the endo pain is more or less constant daily and my periods are unbearable. Lost as to what to do too.

Hi C'bird-

Iv been with fert clinic for 2yrs-just not finding them very helpful!Accupuncture is absolutely incredible you have to be very consistent I was going weekly for 5 wks period was painless, clotless and and I felt incredible!!!just so dam expensive-in south africa its R1000 for 5 sessions-will start again nxt month for sure hioghly reccomendable!

Hi Lily lu 2

Have u heard of visanne?I'm thinking about it apparently very good for pain and reduces endo...I'm going to give it 1 more month I think!?its only sore around my period-

Its very frustrating because my period is irregular so I can't chart my ovulation properly!

Good lord!

Just praying for a miracle-

Love and light on your journey!

It takes the average couple 12 to 18 months to conceive so don't panic!

You have loads of options, and you will generally always ovulate the same number of days before your period (10 to 14 days on average). You can chart using your temperature (temping) but it needs to be done at the same time every day, and if you have any kind of endocrine issues (like PCOS) it isn't always accurate, or can be difficult to read. You can also use OPK sticks, which you can get really cheaply off amazon, it doesn't need to be the expensive ones. The most accurate way is by monitoring your cervix and mucus - very easy and quick to do.

I would recommend the Taking Charge of Your Fertility book, app, and website - it's better than some of the rubbish on google and easy to use. Also, Pregnacare pre-conception vitamins have actually had increased pg rates in women with irregular cycles. You could try alternative methods to attempt to regulate your cycle, like Agnus Castus, but you do need to religiously chart your cycle as you can't use it after ovulation. Plus acupuncture is supposed to be great!

Just bear in mind that if you purposely stop ttc for a long period of time your local CCG rules may ask that you ttc for 12 months again before allowing you to be referred for fertility. You would get a referral now and it might be worth doing the basic tests via your GP (bloods and sperm) to check there are no problems.

I know it's hard, we have been trying 4 years, and other than 6 months of prostap relief i have had to cope with just painkillers and diet (etc).

Good luck x
