how to lower uric acid without medicine?

Hi all!

anybody have tips on how to naturally lower uric acid? Mine went up to 7.9. My Doctor wanted to give me alopurinol but I told him I'd try to do it naturally. He said to try for 3 months and come back for another blood test. So I have cut down on fruit and almost all sugar. I am also drinking more water and trying to add more salads with lots of cucumbers, lettuce and celery. I'd appreciate more suggestions.

Thanks

I was prescribed Alopurinol and it works for me. I was diagnosed at CKD 3b.

Meat is the biggest culprit. And unfortunately, Turkey..... cauliflower are all foods to avoid or limit. I also take something, which is prescribed, but pretty natural. Bicitra, or sodium citrate. There are other solutions like that which you can take that is not allopurinol, but that is the medicine that works best. I have been on it for years. Don't mess with uric acid. You will find your kidneys will function better when you get your PH level better and lower urate and uric acid levels.

thanks Bassetmommer Actually I eat very little meat. Pretty close to being a vegetarian. But I do love cauliflower. Is the problem with all the cabbage family, or only cauliflower?

Do you take both Allopurinol together with the Bicitra?

I take both. I put the solution in my hibiscus tea with honey as it is very bitter (Duh, its acid) and make it a quiet moment to enjoy every afternoon. I used ginger ale in the beginning, but I don't drink that anymore because of the artificial sweetener.

Hi I think I had gout about 6 weeks ago , the pain was excruciating, It was around the ball of my foot & big toe . At first I couldn't even bare to put my foot onto the floor & had to hobble on the side of my foot .

This is when the Dr prescribed Naproxin, even though my GFR is 55

I went for an Xray & blood test both didn't show anything apart from Low GFR & high creatinin.

I'm fairly sure it must have been gout but my toe was not classically red & swollen.

I only had a conversation with my GP via telephone, it was never examined.

I began taking allopurinol about 3 years ago during an attack of gout in both feet, it was horrible. My uric acid level was 9.9 ( high). I was prescribed allopurinol, 200 mg. per, day and uric acid went down to normal levels and remained there with the help of this medication.I have had no side effects. Stay away from foods with purines and whatever you do no alcohol of any kind.

Thanks renegade70

I'm still trying without medicines. I brought the uric acid down in 3 months from 7.9 to 7.1 with diet containing lots of veggies, drinking more water and avoiding sweets. It seems to be working.

I have ordered a book on the subject called "Drop Acid" .I'll see what I can learn.
