Got blood resukts from over 30 yrs aho ago. NHS request medical records

Hi, I've often wondered what my kidney function results were off yrs ago. I contacted NHS medical records at local hospital. I have just received them as I wanted to know my kidney function tests over the yrs when I went into hospital for nothing major. I pleased to say they have not altered much over the last 30 yrs. After my recent kidney scare this year caused by dehydration. At age 21 my creatinine was 81 umol, today aged 54 yrs it's 80 umol. Ten yrs ago it was 79 umol. My urea at 21yrs was 4.4. today at 54 yrs it's 2.3. My sodium and potassium levels are near enough identical at age 21yrs. My egfr is 72 now aged 54 yrs. Ten yrs ago it was 78. My GP did say egfr decline is most probably age related as all other tests/ scans in normal range. Interesting to find this information out. Reassuring too.

Interesting. Yes our egfr declines with age. The kidney is one of the fastest declining organs in our body especially after age 65.. Your numbers are great. Nothing for you to worry about.

Thanks for your reply. I was just curious of what previous test's were. I was pleasantly surprised that nothing has altered dramatically in 30 yrs. I think too much emphasis is placed in egfr when you should look at the whole picture with other blood test results and symptoms. I understand that egfr is just a estimate which can change in a matter of hours depending on diet, medication, exercise , hydration.

Completely agree with eGFR simply being an estimation.

For eg. If I use kidney.org.au/health-profes... and use a different age in this eGFR calculator, my eGFR increases by a massive 17 points.

So, unchanging results may be due to changing assessments such as age, not necessarily because your actual levels have remained unaltered. -If you get what I mean.

Hi,

Yes I have changed my age and my egfr goes up with same creatinine readings. Like I said my creatinine and urea readings have roughly been the same for last thirty years. This was reassuring. Other bloods like potassium, chloride, alt, billirubin, again roughly unchanged. I did not know I could obtain results off yrs ago until I contacted my local hospital. Very interesting Indeed.

You must be doing something right and/or be blessed by genetics. Good on you, Tempest1. 👍
