My husband had a radical prostectomy three years ago and ever since then he has had high blood pressure (prior to the op it was always low), after recent blood tests eGFR is going down from 58 to 35 in last month with creatine now 165. GP is still monitoring as BP medication not bringing down blood pressure. My husband is Afro Caribbean and she says their hormones and enzymes are different and BP is hard to stabilise so she is trying different types of medication. She will refer to Renal specialist if it drops again on recent bloods.
Has this happened to anybody else after this type of operation please? We are very worried
Thank you

Hi Kaylor, with such a sudden and steep drop I would be seeking an appointment with a nephrologist sooner rather than later or at least an immediate repeat blood test to see if there is any turnaround in the results. The consultant is the best ‘go-to’ for treating the high BP as well - some BP meds are bad for the kidneys.
Has your hubby been taking anything unusual medication-wise , even herbal, particularly anti-inflammatory medication recently? Even liquorice can increase blood pressure. Salt is also a baddie.
Drinking plenty of water is helpful as is exercise. To answer your actual question. I know several men who have had prostatectomies in the last few years and none of them has high BP as a direct result. Although none is Afro-Caribbean, to be fair. Lots of good luck wishes.
