I thought I would let you know the results of my last blood test since I stopped taking Omeprazole 5 weeks ago. My creatinine has dropped from 110 to 95 and my egfr has risen from 43 to 52. My creatinine is still not good but I’m hoping in time it will improve. I’ve had 3 awful reflux attacks in that time. I spoke to my GP today as I asked her if I could chat to the renal team for some guidance. She said that as my results had improved then that was not necessary. It’s the same answer as last time. If this should happen again then they would get in touch with the renal team on my behalf. She did say that if I had another attack then it is ok to take a Omeprazole tablet as a one off to help with the reflux. I’m finding this hard without medication but if it improves my blood results then sobeit. I am determined not to take Omeprazole again!

I suffer the same with reflux and no longer take Omerprazole. I now take ginger both granules and whole ginger root. Also Ginger and Lemon herbal tea. You can add slices of ginger root to the tea or simply eat the slices raw. It is hot that way but only lasts until chewed and swallowed. Also you can take a half to one spoonful of powdered ginger dry. Keep in your mouth for a few minutes and swallow with a little milk or water.
Thank you citronic and everyone for your replies. You have given me many alternative ideas to help control acid reflux. Last night I had peppermint tea and had a good nights sleep. Also, for some time now I have been making ginger shots. I got the idea from Prets. I use a garlic crusher to crush some root ginger and put into a little pot then pour 100% pure apple juice on top, give the bottle a shake and this is my early morning starter. I think that method is also helping. I use ginger quite often in my cooking too. I will also investigate the Acid Watchers Diet. Many thanks to you all and a very Merry Xmas and healthy and happy 2021 🙋🎅🌲
You are very very lucky thank God. I have no stomach problems but take RA meds and Omeprazole killed my kidneys in 2018 even now my function is GFR 24 and its been a long slow process. Cimitidine not a PPI, is available and it tastes vile. As I say I don't know if it works as its a preventative. An AKI is not fun and it was painless the RA Registrar did a blood test as routine and it was then 14 days in hospital etc. Best advice is make sure you drink a lot of water. Merry Christmas. xxxx
Yes, I would see if there is something else you can take for the acid reflux. Check with your doctor, but I take Pepcid for a break through attack.I am 21+ years post transplant.
