Mom has CKD

My mom was just diagnosised with CKD she is stage 4 number is 20. She is calling for an appt with kidney specialist today. We have been researching diets for her condition and have started her on a much better diet for kidney function. She is scared. Is there hope for her? Can we slow down her spiral? she is 89. No heart issues after intensive tests in hospital, but has been on high blood pressure meds for several years. Poor digestion and very tired. Otherwise healthy and looks 60.

Know that the diagnosis can be nerve racking. I am 76 and diagnosed at stage 3b. With diet, and medicine changes the progression has slowed. The Kidney Specialist will be able to prescribe appropriate treatment plan and appropriate medicines changes if needed.

Hugs yes always hope for her. However, basically in order to prevent dialysis, one has to become a healthy person. To be a healthy person you must have a healthy weight. I am 76 and I am trying. I try to stick to WW on line. I have lost over 40 lbs and need to lose quite a bit more. I have learned to control my AFIB attacks. I will keep trying to get my weight to normal to prevent dialysis. I have been on WW over a year and probably will need to stay on it for the rest of my life. However, I feel great. The bottom line is CKD is heading for dialysis. High BP and Diabetes must be in control. Never to old to become Healthy YOU !! XXOO God Bless

Thank you buddygramma!! Yes she has started on a healthy diet!she should lose about 20lbs. She doesn’t have diabetes and her blood pressure has been controlled. She has had to go off of anti inflammatorys she has been using for back pain. Hoping we ca help her get this under control! Wishing you the best!
