Ckd stage3b fatigue

Have recently been diagnosed with ckd stage 3b at 34. I have been battling fatigue for quite some time now but i also struggle to get to sleep. Gp and hospital have both said there isnt much they can do except advise me to try calms... I have tried this it only works from time to time. Iv cut caffiene right down since being diagnosed and i feel a little more fatigued for doing it. Wandering if any one else out there is similar and also what do you do to combat it.

Hello Bear82655 and welcome to this supportive community. Sorry to hear about your fatigue and your struggles to sleep.

Have a look at the recent post to this community in the link below. This is from a member at Stage 3b who also has issues with fatigue. In the responses our members have lots of useful tips and advice.

I have also included a link to a useful site which also has a lot of information about sleep issues and chronic kidney disease

Please let us know how you are getting on.

See your GP, (not your nephrologist) about a good quality vitamin and melatonin, get moderate exercise. Don't get crazy with it. Approach Da Vita diets very carefully: they are in the dialysis BUSINESS.

Melatonin can easily be found over the counter. I take melatonin as well which has helped me a lot to sleep, however, do be very cautious of this.

Melatonin can cause depression and even suicidal thoughts in certain individuals among other side effects. When I first started taking it, my doctor told me to start low and gradually increase until it helped me sleep. Once I got to 6 mg a night, I started getting depressed and couldn’t figure out why as nothing had changed. I remember one particularly bad night. Coincidently after that night, I had gone to a Naturopath who told me I only needed about 1mg of melatonin, but we didn’t discuss the depression. I I immediately reduced my amount to 1mg. After that the depression was gone. About a year later someone told me on a different forum to be careful suggesting melatonin due to these very issues. It was then that I figured out what had happened with me. So, now I just like to share that word of caution.

Here are a few articles relating to it.

HI Zazzel,

Yes melatonin has a strange effect on some people. I would wake up and felt hung over and cranky. I stopped it and the hangover went away. But being cranky was because I was overworked. That went a way when I retired. :)

I have switched to CBD oil to sleep and for me it works. But it was approved by all of my doctors before I took it. I take it for pain management and sleep only.

Glad you aren’t cranky anymore . Lol!😂😂😂 I’m Looking forward to retiring some day! So, for the CBD oil, was there any issues with the kidneys? I’ve heard it helps a lot with pain. I’ve tried everything for this shoulder pain including physical therapy. I won’t take any kind of over the counter pains killer, but was thinking maybe CBD oil might help.

Again, for me, it works great My pain would often wake me up at night and then of course I would perseverate on it. The oil just let's me sleep and I do get up at least once for the potty and go back asleep. Before, going back to sleep would not happen easily.

So.... I vetted this out with my health team and they all were on board with it. But...you really need to check it out with your team.

Also, be aware there is a lot of crap out there now. I get a specific brand from the local store that is high concentration. It is not cheap. I started out with a lower dose and it was ok, but this stuff is great...FOR ME.
