Just thinking ...

From the opinion of a lot of people on here, including myself obviously, im caused to think that to a kidney patient its like a doc saying to someone ... well youve got a little bit of cancer but dont worry, we'll take care of it when it gets worse.

More cheer from me on another day.

Exactly. Which is why I do my own research. He’s not gonna do it for me. Like the other day, went in to see doctor, had to ask if I should get flu shot(he never even brought it up) his reply, yes, if you got the flu it would put you right into dialysis! Well, thanks for the info doc! Do you have any flu shots? No, we haven’t gotten them in yet. So had my husband get me one. So I don’t put that much stock in what he tells me

Thank you for your responses. Im glad there are others that agree and hopefully if we complain doctors will someday be a little more conscientious about diseases ... or recommend specialists.

I actually dont expect docs to know it all ... i think of them as switchboard operators ... if theres a problem please ! refer to a specialist if there are any. Dont shrug.

Dont be like bunkins doc either if theres something that will actually help and not suggest it.

Im not saying either to fill us full of needless harmful drugs that the latest pharmaceutical rep just hauled in.

Or hospitals to require docs to run patients thru like lucy and ethel at the chocolate factory.

Im actually changing docs again ! after the first (older) one misdiagnosing me three times that i remember and the latest (young) one and her office virtually telling me to write codes for my visit and labs to be done.

I am kind of surprised that in this day and age things haven't improved. I was diagnosed in 1992.....and I am hearing the same story from most everyone. Guess the NKF needs to raise more $$$ to educate doctors. In 1992 I was told to start a no-salt diet. That was all........and by 1998 I was put on the UNOS list and my GIFT OF LIFE in 1999. Here I am 19 years later......living well, and thankful everyday!!!

I am thankful, too! First that you got this wonderful gift of life and are healthy and such a great support and inspiration to all of us!

I am shocked in 1992 you were told a no-salt diet only.

I feel that it is more than NKF educating nephrologists, it comes from medical school and training.

Additionally, no time penalties from the group/ hospitals as to sticking to time constraints decided by administrators and monitoring the time spent with patients by computer. Twenty minutes is not sufficient to see a patient whose labs reflect an unexpected problem.

In our area physicians are fined if they are caught referring a patient/ talking to a doctor of the patient's choice who is associated with the other hospital group. Sad. Best care?

Very sad that money and

bureaucracy have overshadowed patient care and the wellness they stress.

If one finds a great doctor grab them! So glad that you did!

Keep the home fires burning,

WYOAnne!

👍🙏😉

Soooo ... got my results from the doc from other day ... creatinine high at 1.03. No bun or egfr rate even tho i told doc i have kidney disease and want to keep track.

Information is ... "your kidney funtion is insufficient but in a stable range for you". Well WHAT does THAT mean ?!

I kind of would like to know numbers even tho i know that in actuality it flucuates.

Also said to keep bp controlled. Was 148/62 ... a little low bottom # so maybe thats why she didnt mention an increase in meds ???

Sometimes i just get tired of worrying but ...

do it anyway. Nothing better to do i guess.

If I told you what I have been through in 2 metropolitan hospitals- one nephrologist is the Renal Chief of Staff, you all would shiver.

I have been 100% compliant and calm.

I really wonder what a Hypocratic Oath is anymore.

I totally understand how you feel.

My GP is furious and now searching for a nephrologist who will communicate with her and at least fax Visit Summaries to her which both doctors agreed to do, and clarify statements to me.

It's a shame that you had an issue that was not properly addressed.

Keep us in the loop as you are not alone.
