He's been at a gfr at around 25-30 for a few months. been on Mmf and other things but developed an infection about three weeks ago. Refused to go to gp, eventually did and got amoxicillin. He felt a lot worse taking them to so stopped. Now his creatine was 360 on friday and his urea high. His other bloods, calcium etc ok apart from wbc, rbc and platelets which were way off what they should be. Am i right in thinking that if he has an infection his creatine will go up? He's feeling awful and has been called into the renal unit today. I can't be with him and worried sick. Any thoughts? Please and thankyou

Help. Minor panic regarding my other half.
yes infection causes kidney damage so will alter the creatine levels my hubby used to get treatment straight away when he thought he had one, there are plenty of other antibiotics that he can have some are not kidney friendly,my hubby was allergic to a couple but yes he needs more antibiotics ASP the renal unit will do all they can for him they leave no stone unturned! its a lot to take in but they are good at their job!
Turns out he has hepatitis so now fretting about that. The renal unit have been fab but his gfr is now 15 so i'm panicking. Just hope it hasn't done too much long term damage to what kidney function he has/had. Any idea whether the creatine level will bounce back as the infection is beaten or if its a long term thing? Thanksx
