This morning waking test of 4.8mmols, had usual 5units novo and 15 lantus; then roughly 25g CHO. Next test (after computer work) 13.5mmols - which annoyed me considerably! Hadn’t been intending to run, but decided to do so. Ran very very slowly - but didn’t feel sick or hugely unwell, as I had on the last attempt, and did the whole 28mins without stopping. Test immediately after warm down 6.5mmols - At last some sort of headway. 13.5 isn’t a brilliant starting number and I’m not sure how to adjust that down without giving myself a hypo during the run...Will try again on Thursday...

Hi jem154
Sound like common enough problems. Just some tips from my own experience - not saying I always get it right either - Keeping an eye on blood glucose is always important and big spikes after eating ideally should be avoided. This is very difficult to control perfectly however and some increase after eating is quite common even normal. You have to be careful not to over correct this and cause a hypo later. One way to avoid this is to try to avoid checking sugar for 2 hours after eating. Sitting doing computer work I think can also sometimes exacerbate high sugar due to inactivity and static posture - either factor this in to your insulin/carb exchange rate or make sure you get up for a break and walk about more regularly while working.
Thanks for your reply Boabphil - today’s run started with a 12.5mmols, empty stomach, 3units novo and was actually relatively enjoyable! Immediate test afterwards was 7.5mmols. So I’m currently feeling very pleased to have had a better experience. (Have also decided to postpone burning all running gear for the moment...)
