Does anyone know if it's possible to do Low Carb, Low Fat - I know most people do LCHF, but I don't have a gall bladder and since it was removed me and fat don't get on too well!

Hi Kaka my gallbladder is gone also. What really helps is bile salts. If you can get your doctor to prescribe the name of the drug is ursodiol would really help I take 300 mg each single day. They have a generic now.

I am very sorry to see your dilemma in finding the answers to a low carb diet. My first reaction is going to your GP and Healthcare Professionals. Sometimes they may have the answers and there may be a possibility of maybe not. Dieticians, Nutritionists and Naturopathic Doctors (NDs) would be other areas of explorations. It is always a good idea to check their qualifications and recognised professional bodies ensuring that they meet the criteria required of them to practice. Once you get to these specialists, they will work appropriate nutritional routes with due consideration of the loss, removal or damage of specific organs and are able to apply appropriate diets conducive to maintaining optimum health. We must look at expanding our scope of our condition and the prospects around us that may aid in our pursuit of quality of life. I wish you well in your exploration of possible alternatives and a sound recovery in making your system perform right for you and a comfortable life to follow. Please let us know how you get along. One factor in your pursuit is the knowledge you will gain in improving your health. Best wishes to you.

Hi, i also have no gall bladder, it being removed many years ago, and also have liver function problems as a result of eye cancer (yes silly i know but that is the truth). I have been following LCHF since about March now, and have managed to come off my mitformin, which was causing me to spend a lot of time in the smallest room in the house - so as long as you watch the quantities of fat you take in you should be fine. I eat lots of meat, medium amount of cheese but no bread anymore and certainly no pasta or potatoes. It seems to be more about portion sizes for me and many others who also have success with this plan.

Thanks all - i must try. Due to family members not having issues with their diabetes,i am a little bit careless and eat things I shouldn't - must get a grip and as I have a doctor who actually mentioned cutting carbs, which I know a lot don't, I really should listen.

Have you tried Low carb and adding more protein? Has your doctor suggested that at the appointment?

It was a telephone call with the doctor and he just said cut carbs, no further advise - will ask him next time.

I think its possible to do low carb with increased protein. I am not a dietician so not based on science.

I've done better with low carb and more protein in my diet. It keeps the numbers level, but still I say a doctor needs to be asked about it, first to be on the safe side.
