Hi Athalia
Have you been back to see your doctor or nurse? I think you should make an appointment to do that.
The weight loss could be caused by anything, your diabetes, thyroid, medication etc.
Please go and see your nurse and let us know how you get on.
Good luck.
There are a number of forms of diabetes that can have onset later in life and can be mistaken for type 2 but are actually type 1. Metformin is unlikely to be the right medication if this is the case.
Is there a strong family history of diabetes (which might point to a MODY variation)? LADA is another possibility.

You really need to go back to your GP and talk things through with them.
As other replies say - its also possible that the problem is not or not just diabetes.
That was exactly my first thought to Gambit 62. I think Athalia needs to be seen by an endocrinologist, one who specialises in diabetes.
Although it might also be worth being checked out for thyroid probs. An overactive thyroid can cause you to lose a lot of weight but you feel pretty ill, I had a pounding heart all the time, was sure I was going to have a heart attack and I had the shakiest hands ever.
