Swelling on both the feet occurs during summer for the past 3/4 years. What precaution should be taken to cure this problem?

I became a diabetic patient while I was young. Since then, I have been administering insulin twice in a day to control the diabetes. For the last 3/4 years, swelling appears on both the feet. I am a senior citizen.According to some doctors, this is seen among the older people between the age 50 to 60 and probably due to sitting in office for long hours. Can anyone in the members of this community whether anyone has such problem and what precaution has been taken or what needs to be done in order to cure this problem?
