"Intermittent fasting may help with weight loss, which can reduce the risk of diabetes complications. While intermittent fasting can be done safely, people with diabetes may be at risk of hypoglycemia and hyperglycemia, due to fluctuations in blood sugar during and after periods of not eating."(1)Links:-

If you are diabetes with wild fluctuation of blood sugar , as Gangadhara says , it is not recommended....If weight loss is your motive , you can achive that by a low calori diet with an exercise program.

However, 12 hours fasting is something which everybody can do it.... and I would recommend even 14 hours fasting if you have blood sugar under control with no medication or least medication and you are doing physically very well...... I do a 14-15 hour fasting which I am immensely beneftted- I get 8 hours sound sleep and my blood sugar is absolutely control...my lipids under control... My BP is 110/70 and my resting heart rate is 60-65..I feel energetic....I run @6.5 kMPH on tread mill for 20-30 mnts twice daily ....

If you want to know different types of intermittent fasting , here is an article which talks about 6 most popular type of intermittent fasting.

You are right, There are multiple ways one can do IF. In fact, I don't intend to do IF with an intention to lose weight... Because I have no weight to lose😊... rather I would like to put on few more Kilo's,

But my principle is to have 3 hour gap between my dinner and my Bed time- no food snacks in between as my health conditions are better, and I have my stable blood sugar...... And I am an early riser.... So I need to go to bed early.

So, I take my dinner by 6.30 P. M . Go to bed by 9.30 PM...

Next day morning, I get up early by 4.30 to 5 AM. I do some yoga, meditation, pranayam.. then I take my bath... By the time, I take my break-fast , it becomes 8.30AM. I have my usual lunch at 1 PM..

So by default, I do fasting for 14 hours, though I never intended to do any fasting.

Hi tvkd ,

Has your doctor suggested that you go on IF as a possible diet to help control your blood sugars? Please check out the Fasting and Furious group on HU. Please see: healthunlocked.com/fasting-...

Please show your doctor the information, as well. I hope this helps. 😀👍
