After an intermittent fasting diet intervention, patients achieved complete diabetes remission, defined as an HbA1c (average blood sugar) level of less than 6.5% at least one year after stopping diabetes medication, according to a new study published in the Endocrine Society's Journal of Clinical Endocrinology & Metabolism. Intermittent fasting diets have become popular in recent years as an effective weight loss method.
With intermittent fasting, you only eat during a specific window of time. Fasting for a certain number of hours each day or eating just one meal a couple of days a week can help your body burn fat. Research shows intermittent fasting can lower your risk of diabetes and heart disease.
The researchers conducted a 3-month intermittent fasting diet intervention among 36 people with diabetes and found almost 90% of participants, including those who took blood sugar-lowering agents and insulin, reduced their diabetes medication intake after intermittent fasting. Fifty-five percent of these people experienced diabetes remission, discontinued their diabetes medication and maintained it for at least one year.
At least in my case, it ( low carb and IF) has helped me lot.. although I am 71 and diabetic for 30 years, I am on very low dose of medicines and leaving very healthy life without any diabetic complications.
A good post and response. Could you please explain what medication and what dosage you were on and now what low dosage. And also what complication did you experience.
I have No diabetic complications. My Blood sugars, lipids, LFT, KFT HsCRP, Thyroid levels etc all are in normal range.I do Blood work half yearly, except A1c which I do quarterly.
My medications were same as below but quantity was more than double, about 10 years back. Since then I am following low carb diet, and some fasting.
My Wt is 61 kg and Ht 158 cm.I walk 3/4, times a week but not regular. Also do some yoga ..
Presently my medicines are…. 1)Tab. Reclimate( 500)- 1/2-1/2-1/2. (half tab thrice a day) ..( it’s 50mg glaclazide plus 500 mg Metformin)
2)Also taking vitamin supplements like B12 and vit D3…
I eat Flax seeds, sunflower seeds, chia seeds, Nuts like Peanuts, Almonds, walnuts ,Turmeric pickle, Garlic, Ginger etc in good quantity.
I am diabetic since 25 years,73 yrs old, weight 69kg,taking Vildamec M once daily with lunch,Diabecon DS[Ayurvedic} with dinner, walks one hour in morning and one hour in evening, make my own ayurvedic powder and take one tsp twice daily,hba1c 5.8[quarterly] with no other complications, even not using specs for reading etc[which I was using since 35 years].What I want to say is that Diabetes is such a problem that each individual needs a specific treatment. It is not one formula fits all.
Thanks for sharing. You are maintaining a good lifestyle and A1c…How do you make your own Aurvedic medicine.. You may share it..If it is proving useful, it’s good…Keep up.. May post your diet.
