Covid-19 vaccine tracker, August 3: Why so many vaccines are being developed

According to the latest list of the World Health Organisation, at least 165 vaccines for novel Coronavirus were being developed across the world.

But why are so many vaccines being developed? Do we need so many Coronavirus vaccines? Wouldn’t one be enough? Wouldn’t the first one to hit the market make others redundant? Aren’t then we wasting huge amount of money and resources in duplicating efforts? Shouldn’t everyone collaborate to produce just one effective vaccine, and concentrate our efforts in ensuring that it is made available to all?

Here are some possible answers.

you could ask a number of questions:

Why so many temples?

Why so many different cars?

Why so many different companies making paining killing medication?

All to do with money making machine and monopoly!!!!

All we need is jut one vaccine to help the world population.

Tried and tested research vaccine is the one that will work, may be USA, UK, India, Russia, or Chinese?

Yes, I did read the full story, I have been following the vaccine development as well.

Here is the latest story in UK.

theguardian.com/world/2020/...

Only few countries are interested from Russia vaccine.!!

"Russian officials previously suggested they planned to approve the main vaccine candidate by 10 August with foreign sales aimed at countries including India, Brazil and Saudi Arabia – which officials say have expressed an interest."

"More than 140 candidate vaccines are being tracked by the WHO, including the British candidate being trialled by AstraZeneca and Oxford University, two by the Chinese firms CanSino and Sinovac and one by the US biotech company Moderna."

Take care.

Probably they want to make sure at least one of them become cheapest for poor and middle income people and others for big rich persons.

That's part of the reason.

The main reason is the poor science of vaccine making. Nobody knows which one will work, it just random exercise. if it works be happy, else discard it and move on, They don't even try to understand why the approach didn't work. For one vaccine that works, thousands are discarded.

It is pretty much the 6 th century wine brewery, if it works you will be a royal associate of kings court.

Making vaccines is easy for children due to a good immune response. Making vaccine for adults is a different kettle of fish. The immune response from adults is pretty much all or nothing type. Somehow they got to make it work, even by hook or crook. Even by adding compounds (adjuvants) that are no way related to the virus.

Luckily the random mutation which enables the virus to switch host from animals to humans and capable of airborne transmission is rare (once in a century event). Unfortunately, we are in the midst of one.

it is a very complex virus and the more different approaches the better to find the best/most effective vaccine. Not everyone is a greedy, arrogant capitalist .
