Metformin is used alone or with other medications, including insulin, to treat type 2 diabetes (condition in which the body does not use insulin normally and, therefore, cannot control the amount of sugar in the blood). Metformin is in a class of drugs called biguanides. Metformin helps to control the amount of glucose (sugar) in your blood. It decreases the amount of glucose you absorb from your food and the amount of glucose made by your liver. Metformin also increases your body's response to insulin, a natural substance that controls the amount of glucose in the blood

Sitagliptin is used along with diet and exercise and sometimes with other medications to lower blood sugar levels in patients with type 2 diabetes (condition in which blood sugar is too high because the body does not produce or use insulin normally). Sitagliptin is in a class of medications called dipeptidyl peptidase-4 (DPP-4) inhibitors. It works by increasing the amounts of certain natural substances that lower blood sugar when it is high.

Give more priority to diabetic diet and daily exercise. If so, you can reduce the dosage of medicine.

optimist_thinker ,

Thanks for providing the information. Yours is thin T2D(Type 2 Diabetes).

How long you have been taking insulin shots?

Personally, i feel for HBA1c of 8, you should not have been prescribed insulin shots. But there has to be some reason for a physician to prescribe the same.

Please consult multiple endocrinologists and make a decision to continue your insulin shots or not.

Please start working out at least one hour a day and reduce your carbs like roti, rice and replace it with good fat like coconut, ghee, flax seed, etc

optimist_thinker ,

Cool.

I had a similar issue. I lost around 7-8 kgs when i was initially diagnosed T2D.

When your BS(blood sugar) level, stabilizes, you will automatically gain weight (in case of obese T2D).

What was your weight before you were diagnosed T2D?

Have you ever tested for your fasting insulin and C-Peptide which would indicate your beta cell status !

At least you would come to know how much insulin your pancreas is producing ..

If your blood insulin level is not too low, You also have an option of oral medication in place of insulin injections in consultation with your physician ..

Sir, Dr breinstein lived 92 years and an example of type 1 diabetic. Just take 1500 to 1600 calorie food with minimum carb. Go for early morning walk of at least 4 Kms .live worriless.Sleep at least ,7 hours.Take dinner at least 2 hours before going to bed. Fasting insuline test will be better for insuline or oral drugs.Hope always positive.you will be living not less than Dr breinstein.
