I have had diabetes since about 190. Due to a diagnosis of Lpus I was placed on high doses of steroids for a long period of time. The steroids eventually destroyed both of my shoulder and hip joints Plus due to steriods I became a diabetic. Due to uncontrolled blood sugars I have diabetic retinopathy, neuropathy in both feet and some kidney involvement . I now try to keep A1C fairly low and try to take a better of myself. I take no oral medication any longer but do take insulin (regular) only when needed. I lost a good bit of weight and except for other problems I have , I do fairly well. I have learned a good but still have a long way to go.

I really shouldn't say that steroids causes diabetes. My blood sugars was so elevated for so long that my doc eventually informed me that I had diabetes. I didn't know as much as I do now and like I said I still have a lot to learn. As for knowing when to take regular insulin ,I am allowed to test one time per day. I don't want to go to bed without knowing what my blood sugar is , so I test at night. I have been given a sliding scale to go by when taking insulin . My last A1C was 6. - 7ππ ? I t was about 3-4 months ago. I recently had labs done but haven't saw my doc yet. I don't know what it was a year ago. I do know that my doc said that it was looking better and that he was pleased to see it. Thank you for helping me.π
AWhat is that ?
