Type 2 Diabetes - - - My story.

Only time will tell for medication.

The reason for this post is to give people a choice to look at life style change.

I joined Healthunlocked in October 2012.

It all started with an answer phone message from my doctor few years ago. your blood glucose level is high from blood test, make an appointment to see the diabetic nurse. At that appointment I was told by the diabetic nurse that she can confirm you are diabetic and you will be on medication for life and you will be on the GP practice diabetic register. Because I am in the diabetic register I get once a year eye check and blood check which is good for me.

A few checks were done. My doctor wrote prescription for diabetic medication and cholesterol medication. Six or more letters came in the post from NHS! No life style change were mentioned!!

I came home Googled on life style change found some answers. Made an appointment to see the doctor to get advice on diet, the GP practice did not have any one and had to wait for one month for an appointment.

I was determined not to go on medication, went to the gym 7 days a week, cut down on all lunch time drinking and eating, slowly the weight came down. Three months later I had to buy new cloths.

I was lucky to have medical people in my family for discussion. I went for blood test after six months and there were improvements. Blood test for HbA1c is just coming into our medical practice. I had both cholesterol and HbA1c blood test done; each blood test printout gave 30 or more information. My entire doctor said was, we are monitoring and no medication required.

I tried cholesterol medication just to see if the cholesterol can come down, the total cholesterol came down to 2.8, UK measurements. So far no medication for blood glucose and cholesterol, only time will tell, my belief is whatever can happen. When it is necessary I may go on to medication.

WE feat freshly prepared food every day for dinner, breakfast and lunch simple, whatever at home.

I wrote A4 report for Healthunlocked and did a video for gout; I have done a lot of freelearn courses on human body and medication. Always learning!!.

I enjoy a drink every evening, rice twice a week, other home cooked food on other 5 days. I was to enjoy one life, 72 now.

great to hear this. i think you are right. even in my case the HBA1C was 15.7 and fasting glucose was 456. as you had mentioned i also was of the opinion not to go for medication took to walking and light excercise and cut down on sugar intake. as it is i am underweight, hence i did not have any necessity to reduce the weight. now the doctor whom i consult told me that we will be monitoring the sugar levels as i am around 140-150 in fasting.

Excellent!, "We will be monitoring the blood glucose levels"

Diet control, eating smaller portions, watching out for free and hidden sugar and exercise do work. Take care.

Good sir. I have same experience. In my case, first test HBA1C was 11.46 and fasting and PP were double than upper limit of normal levels. I cut down sugar intake, all bakery products, soft drinks, regular rice, refined oil, reduced wheat opted for jawari roti, brown rice. ate salad before meals. Limited meals to light breakfast (and tea with organic Jaggery), lunch and dinner. Nothing in between. Ate all types of fruits in morning including bananas, mangoes. Take help of Apple Cider Vinegar, Fenguseed soaked water alternatively. Exercised for one hour in morning. No medicine taken. (Surprisingly overall health also improved, not caught any cold/fever etc.) Attended many marriages/functions during these days and enjoyed all sort of food (within limits)

After exactly 4 months, HBA1C is 4.68. However Fasting and PP are just above 5-10% of normal levels. I have decided to continue this lifestyle.

Are you sure your HbA1c is 4.6? That means you average blood sugar is 85, whereas you said your fasting and PP are 5-10% above the normal level, which mean you fasting is >100 and PP is >140, this absolutely does not make any sense

More details:

After one month, PP was 197 and HBA1C 8.9

After 2 months PP 169 HBA1C was 7.4

Few things I realized (my belief, may not be true as per medical science)

1.Report's numbers have limitations.

2.All these 3 tests need not have correlation.

3.Body don't follow maths and stats.

4. The role of stress in causing diabetes is underrated.

5. Body can heal itself.

"After one month, PP was 197 and HBA1C 8.9" => made sense

"After 2 months PP 169 HBA1C was 7.4" => made sense

It is fasting >100 and PP >140 with HbA1c 4.6 that does not make sense

"1.Report's numbers have limitations." => Yes, that's why i think 4.6 is incorrect

"2.All these 3 tests need not have correlation. => Oh, it DOES have correlation, HbA1c is an estimated Average Glucose, so it's value must be between FBS and PPBS, there is no way it can be lower than fasting, because in fasting condition all carbs and sugars have been washed out after we fast for at least 8 hours

I have given real facts. If you don't believe, no problem, I am not going to gain or lose anything in any case.

One of my friend who checked first time and found Fasting - 240+, PP 270+, A1C 11.2. After one month of diet change and without medication, his results - Fasting 130 & PP 80. He consulted a MD because of these strange results, who asked him to check after one month and this time check PP at night after dinner and check fasting on next morning. his results - Fasting 110, PP 86. Doctor unable to explain and just asked him to continue what he is doing.

Don't take it personally, i am not trying to gain or win anything either, it's just a discussion not a debate, i just explain the logic of it, but if you mind, i won't comment on your post again. Cheers

Did you really go down from fasting 456 to 140/150 without taking any medication? how long did it take, what was your 2hrPP then and now, and what is your HbA1c now, BTW if your fasting was 456, in my estimation your A1c was 17.5 not 15.7

yes. it is 3 years now. yes it took a long time to come down to this level. but i knew i was eating even 500 grams of sweet to more than a kg of sweets. even my teas were with 4 cubes of sugar. my HBAIC was 8.5 6 months back yet to test this year.the initial HBA1C when fasting was 456 is 15.7 and i have the report. next year it came down to 11 and next it came down to 9.6. it has taken time to come down. i took the chance as i had got diagnosed during a routine checkup and for no health issue. i did start with ayurvedic but i also discontinued the same as i found life style change started giving me results. still i have a long way to go to get it fasting glucose to 120 my 2 hour PP then was tested once and it was above 700. now it is around 250 and also some times 300 when i take sweets along with lunch.

I also had followed you footsteps but not comparable to elegant way you have gone about. In my surroundings I had to wage a lone battle believing in oneself and gathering information to improve ones wellbeing. The real wellbeing is free from drugs, go the natural way using your instincts and suiting ones body needs with limitation that maybe. It is the saddest thing for an individual to be driven by persons who are indirectly driven by medical companies to prove their research and subsequent production. Modern medicine is very helpful ofcourse but lacks the sensitivity of a persons phsychic and seems to lack the patience in its deliverance.

As one is on the mercy of a big established protocol and business it is really difficult to come out and give ones opinion. Also as ones health is certified besides the ailments that can possibly strike out from the blue the peaceful ones quietly manage their healths more dignifiedly as their minds think. Only final death will reveal how successful one was but the person in question will not be there to applaud his own efforts.

I wrote this post to make people aware that life style change can help but it is very difficult to achieve, I am lucky as I was coming in to retirement and no company overseas trips!!!

It was very difficult to start with.

Wow! Way to go!👏👏
