Recently, there is a report in Times of India, which said that the American College of Physicians has revised the target levels for good control of diabetes to HbA1C of 7.0 to. 8.0% instead of keeping it under 7.0. The Indian medical fraternity is not in favour of this. My question is did the ACP also revise the limits for delineating the normal, pre-diabetic and diabetic individuals? I wonder whether the American Diabetes Association agrees with this recommendation.

Thank you for the information giving reference to the full article. But it talks only about new guidelines for HbA1C targets.
But does it mean that the limits for defining normal, pre-diabetic and diabetic individuals remain unchanged. Generally, a ppbs of less than 180 is considered satisfactory which implies that HbA1C of less than 8.0.
Do the pathology labs have to quote new limits for defining normal, pre-diabetic and diabetic individuals?
Thanks.
In my opinion, it should be kept under 6 for overall health and this can only be achieved by good diet and physical activity.
