Reversing Type 2 Diabetes

It has been possible to work out the basic mechanisms which lead to type 2 diabetes. Too much fat within liver and pancreas prevents normal insulin action and prevents normal insulin secretion. Both defects are reversible by substantial weight loss.

A crucial point is that individuals have different levels of tolerance of fat within liver and pancreas. Only when a person has more fat than they can cope with does type 2 diabetes develop. In other words, once a person crosses their personal fat threshold, type 2 diabetes develops. Once they successfully lose weight and go below their personal fat threshold, diabetes will disappear.

Some people can tolerate a BMI of 40 or more without getting diabetes. Others cannot tolerate a BMI of 22 without diabetes appearing, as their bodies are set to function normally at a BMI of, say 19. This is especially so in people of South Asian ethnicity.

  • Are you suggesting that a diabetic should restrict or moderate intake of fat?

  • I have just posted this interesting study of Newcastle University of Medicine and Surgery established in 1834 for the information and comments from our learned members of the forum.

  • Good info. But diabetes is not a 1- cause multi - outcome event.

What is true of ethnic Africans need not and is not true for Indians. Our genes & metabolism is wired diversely.

I read that BMI is not THE only factor in considering taming diabetes.

    George, your thoughts, Pl. ?

  • Kindly understand that all of us are having the sugar in our body. The question is only that in our body it goes beyond the reasonable limits and that is why it starts giving problem. Further sugar levels going below the prescribed levels are equally not good. Therefore, cure is to keep it in within the reasonable limits. Once it has come within reasonable limits, our job is to keep and maintain it in within reasonable limits and that we can do without the help of medicines and by following the following course of action-

    1. Get up early in the morning, before the sun rises and go on terrace and do the exercise of INHALE & EXHALE of oxygen, just for 20 minutes.

    2. Go for a normal work, morning and evening, 30 minutes, each time.

    3. Take a glass of hot water (As hot as tea), 15 minutes after Lunch & Dinner and it will wash out the sugar so created by the food so consumed.

    4. After 30 minutes of lunch, take a teaspoon of powder of Dry Awla (Goosberry) and Saunf (Aniseed) (both in equal quantity) with normal water. Both Awla/Amla and Aniseed are available either at the shops of dryfruits or where the spices are available.

    5. If you want to take Rice, as part of food, take it after taking out the water from Rice or preferably take Brown Rice.

    6. If you want to take Potato, as part of Vegetable, always take boiled potatos and take it in liquid form and not in dry form.

    7. Take Chapati, prepared of wheat combining of -Wheat Flour, Black Gram and Barley-All in equal quantities. Black Gram will support the function of heart and Barley will clean up and strength the kidney functions. (Reduce the ratio if the chapatti becomes hard to eat).

    8. Use of Refined Flour (Maida) should be restricted as far as possible, as it is highly contributory factor in increase of Diabeties. Therefore, the items made of Refined Flour such as normal bread, PAAO, Pizzabase, Samosa, Bhature etc should be avoided as far as possible. However, Brown Bread can be taken.

    9. Take Fruit and Vegetable Salad, as integral part of food, without pouring Salt and Chat Masala or any other spice on it, at the time of Lunch & Dinner.

    10. Take Sprouts and Milk Products as integral part of daily food. Milk Products includes Double Toned Milk, Curd, Buttermilk and Paneer.

    11. Mix up 1/4th teaspoon of Haldi Powder(Termeric powder) in winters and reduce it to one pinch in summer season (Yellow in color) with a glass of hot milk, without sugar and have it 30 minutes before going to bed. It will purify the blood in the body and also eliminates every type of pains and weaknesses in the body and further strength the body.

    12. Avoid taking vegetables like Pototaos, Sweet Potatos, Carrot etc. having the sweet contents and fruits like, sugarcane, oranges, Bannanna, grapes etc.

    13. You can have vegetables like Cauliflower, Cabbage, Methi (Fenugreek Leaves), Palak, Raddish, Lady Finger, Tinda, etc.

    14. You can have fruits like, Gowua, Apple, Pomigrantte, Watermelon, Pappaya etc.

    15. Take the leafts of Raddish and have it in raw form as part of salad.

    16. During Summer Season, always take Buttermilk-salted one, as part of food. It will improve digestive system and reduce the overburdening of Liver function.

    17. Avoid taking normal tea & Coffee. Always take Green Tea.

    18. Avoid taking Oily and more salty food. Reduce the consumption of oil, butter, Ghee and always consume easily digestable food.

    19. Take one Karela ( Bitter Melon/Bitter Gourd/Bitter Squash) and four Tomatos, make a juice of them and have it twice a day.

    20. Always go for medical tests of brain, heart, liver, kidney and eyes, once in a year. For Blood Sugar, always go for HB1C and Sugar PP-every three months, in order to observe the developments. Also go for checking the numbness of the feet and take soft brush for cleaning the teeth.

    21. Always take the restricted food, as mentioned above, in reasonable quantity, at least once in a week, so that inner system of the body will remain conversant with the restricted items also.

    22. Change in life style and eating habbits is equally important to medicine. If we depend only on medicines and will not change our life style and eating habbits, then after sometime, medicine may stop working.

    23. Change in Life Style also includes taking Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner at fixed time, Getting up early in the morning, going to bed maximum by 10 PM at night, Have a sound sleep of at least 6-8 hours a day, do not go for sleep during the day time.

    24. For improving the strength in the body, Five Almonds and Five Wallnuts should be consumed. However, Cashewnuts and Raisin (Kismish) should be avoided. Further all Five types of MAGAJ are equally beneficial.

    25. For Sexual & Urinary disorders, soak one teaspoon of Methi Dana in one glass of normal water, for overnight. In the morning, take out Methi Dana and consume the water, empty stomach.

  • very crude, unscientific, unsafe, and sure way of getting infection in eye, most dangerous risk for diabetes, with possibly no real benefits.

  • have you ever tried---- my family members amongst engineers etc all concerned regular from so many years not binded on anybody sorry if you have been hurted regards panchsheel

  • Not only about the Build up of fat & slowing down of pancreatic activity etc.

Type 2 can be caused due to Hereditary history which just can not be controlled

Stress related reasons also are contributory.

Reduction in body weight etc fall under control measures.

This is what i would like to share

  • Whilst this is true, it's unfortunate that many diabetics are told to lose weight on a low-fat diet. When it fails, as it often does, they are then falsely comforted that the disorder is also down to genetics, and are then told they need to take medication, probably for the rest of their life.

Diabetes can be controlled by controlling carbohydrate intake, because carbohydrate is most easily turned to glucose in the body that contributes to high blood glucose levels. Then high insulin levels are promoted, which in turn encourages fat deposition that causes insulin resistance and leptin resistance.

So, both diabetes and obesity are both symptoms of metabolic syndrome, which results in a high correlation between the two, but neither is causative of the other.

  • Getting Type 2 Diabetes is not just a simple function of fat tolerance level. True liver plays a part, but assuming it the way it is put across appear to be a very simplistic view.

  • How does it differs with T-2 but coz is heredity. I am not over weight and very slim with 6 ft hight and 75 Kgs.

means i am OK with BMI. but SGOP/SGPT level are high. what does it indicate.

  • It is not true that fat deregulation is the cause od DM2.I am Lin and thin person 5'4" and weight around 58-60kg.Still diabetic since last35yrs.My age is70yrs.In this forum many persons have suggested many things to control and to cure diabetes all in good faith and according to their respective experience .So it is difficult to decide which one to follow. As I think DM is a disease which varies greatly and is individual specific. So there is no universal remedy. That is why it is essential to follow your doctors advice as far as medication is concerned. At the same time experiment with your diet within the framework of regulated diet control.

  • doctors assured that human taste buds adopt themselves to changes very easily and frequently.means whenever we change our food habits,it will easily cooperate. this leads us believe that we need not eat what is not healthy..we can definitely follow a healthy diet not blame taste buds .simple eg. earlier we used to take milk tea, with sugar,.but we adopted now to green tea, which is more let us control taste buds.let them not control us.

  • Dear tigermenon, diabetics type 2 curable is unbelievable. However according to shooter George's therapy persons have found great benefit. One has to repose some faith in remedial action. I am also suffering from type 2 diabetics since 19 years and doctors advised me that oral medicines are ineffective and I have to go for insulin therapy. But in the long range I was not affording it and then I found this site, and as per the guidance I received from various members I followed LCHF regimen. My HbA1c dropped to 5.8 within three months. Please repose some faith and start LCHF as advised by medfree.Dear medfree is highly educated person and studied various sites, have deep knowledge in diabetics. As for the exercises you can follow Baba Ramdev, or vipulrohilla.

As regards the fat build up in the pancreas also one of the reason apart from various other aspects.

One can take 25 ml of Alovara juice in empty stomach with 25 ml of water mixed and do not consume any thing for next 1hr. This will regenerate liver and pancreas added with other physical activity.

  • Give the full form of LCHF. what is this?

  • LWMDR, LCHF, YOGA, Walking as regular to burn 300 Calories(JIM preferred or dust n traffic free early morning walk Diet contron and intake of medicine regulaly and finally Monitoring blood sugar-HbA1C and corrective action are essntial for people with DM. From the blog and results of mine and quite afew are encouraging with expectation for cure, but to be checked and confirmed by doctor based on Lab Test. As some of you expressed our system does not equire abundant energy or strength for our office life and shall controll the diel. LCHF means in addition Fruits, route vegetables and direct sugar or sweet to be avioded. Else you may land up in Circulatory system and kidney as wellNuro nd eye problems with out your Knowledge just as we land in DM now.

Our rocket scientist S George deserves Nobel prise as more and more get benifit. It is worth some who are doctors can take up research on this under his guidance.

Best wishes and happy republic day wishes to all my friends for better future for our Country .

Pl. note that Calender for 1947 at the time of independance and this year is same and election are on the anvil.

  • A significant proportion of type 2 diabetics are not overweight.

Fatty liver can be developed by an over-consumption of alcohol or carbohydrate. Fructose (fruit sugar) for instance has to be metabolised by the liver, so in excess will contribute to the build-up of fatty deposits you describe. Incidentally, fructose glycosylates haemoglobin seven times more than glucose.

That said, eating too much starch isn't desirable either. Easily turned to glucose in the body, high-glycaemic starch necessitates unhealthy levels of insulin, also contributing to fatty-liver disease. Think foie gras, where ducks or geese are force fed grains.

Keep your carbohydrate intake between 10 and 14 portions per day (1 portion = 10g carbohydrate), ideally 3 meals x 4 carb portions. Follow this link

Eat low GI carbs, reducing intake of fructose too. Follow this link

Make up the balance of your meals with natural, additive-free, unprocessed protein and fat foods such as meat, poultry, fish, seafood, eggs, cheese, coconut oil, palm oil (not hydrogenated), olive oil, butter, duck fat, goose fat, and lard.

  • How to know the threshold. Is there any test related to same.
