Normal reference ranges are 70 to 110 fasting and 110 to 140 one and a half hour after breakfast.Your grandpa is way above acceptable range.CMC must be having a speciality diabetes wing.Better consult them.In the meantime, here are some points you may note.

First and foremost, you should be thoroughly knowledgeable about diabetes, because ultimately it is you who will have to take all the steps to manage your diabetes.Use the search function on this web page to access all earlier posts on this site to get answers for all your questions and clear your doubts so that you can chart an effective course of action. You should concentrate four areas particularly,i.e.diet control, adequate physical activity, stress free lifestyle and as a balancing factor, medicines prescribed by a good doctor. For diet, understand two concepts called glycemic index and glycemic load so that you can decide what exactly to eat and how much to eat. There is no specific diet plan, other than following these basic principles.Avoid high glycemic foods, eat medium glycemic foods moderately and consume more of low glycemic foods.Keep overall consumption to moderate levels at each meal. For physical activity, you should indulge in some form of physical activity of your choice, like walking relatively briskly for about 40 minutes daily.Stress is bad for a diabetic, and hence you have to manage your stress levels by leading a disciplined life or doing yoga or listening to your favorite soothing music etc.Lastly, you have to go for quarterly and annual checkups and take the prescribed medicines scrupulously.Lastly,it takes lot of effort and will power to tackle diabetes but it is possible.

Best way to control Blood Sugar Level is through proper diet.Yes, you can control it using medicines but best and healthy way is through Diet.

When planning for diet, diabetic people should concentrate on a low carb diet.Carbohydrate is the main reason for the increase in sugar level. So when we start decreasing the consumption of carbs, chances of maintaining healthy sugar level increases.

Best Indian food for diabetics patients is food which contains low carb(low sugar), high protein, high fibre and low glycemic index.

Foods prepared with millets are gluten-free, loaded with protein and fibre, and are rich in vitamins, calcium, iron, magnesium, and zinc.Millets are prescribed frequently by diabetologists quite simply because they are particularly known to bolster diabetes management measures. The high fibre content of millet is responsible for slowing down the release of sugar into the bloodstream. In fact, it would be more appropriate to claim that it slows down digestion – which results in the distribution of sugar at a more even pace.

Reducing the intake of simple carbohydrates like white rice, maida, potato, yam and using complex carbohydrate like Brown rice, millets, buckwheat, lentils etc will reduce blood sugar since complex carbohydrates have a low glycemic index.

Using lentils instead of rice in dosa, idli etc will help in curbing the intake of simple carbs.

Here are some of the recipes for diabetic diet

Moong dal(Mung bean) Kichdi /Pongal with broken wheat. Switch to broken wheat from rice. It tastes good and healthy too.

Ragi Dosa - Mix ragi flour with curd or water for consistency of dosa batter and add salt to taste and keep it for 30 min. And now prepare dosa with this batter for healthy breakfast.(Pinch of soda can be added for crispy dosa).

Multigrain Dosa - You can use a different type of dals with rice (unpolished rice or red rice ) and make healthy dosa. Likewise, idli also can be made.

Gluten-free flour can be used for making chapati.

There are some online websites which sell low carb food. You can use them prepare your meals. Check here -> dietdelite.in/
