Any low carb diet may reduce sugar spike after food but stoppage of medicine requires professional advise of a doctor who needs to be approached for consultation

Welcome to the group, Rabba. It should be for medical Doctor to recommend which medicines will be suitable for you. Members of this group do not advice on medicines.

In general low-carbs diets have been good for diabetics but remember it may have varying degrees of effect depending on individual's conditions and therefore you have to try it and monitor your blood sugar regularly. When blood sugar becomes lower you may have to reduce the doses of the medicine in consultation with your Doctor.

Thanks Praveen for reply.

My doctor is reluctant to talk about diet Carbs etc and happy to prescribe Janumet .He only asked if I exercised which I do.

My personal experience is Janumet alone does not normalise blood sugar unless Carbs are also reduced.

You r right one has to get a doctor to reduce dose.

Can u kindly recvomend on a dietician in Pune?

Thanks

Perfectly said. rvmasalvad and Praveen55 . Everyone that is thinking of changing the dose or medication is recommended to speak with their doctor before doing anything. This is to be on the safe side of things. Thanks for reply. You reduced Janumet 50/500 after reducing Carbs on advice of your doctor? Now you take only metaformin 500?

My experience has been Janumet alone does not help unless Carbs are also reduced.I was surprised on my own experience on how Carb reduction like reducing chapatti etc reduces sugar!

My doctor is reluctant to talk of Carbs reduction and merely prescibes medicines.I was only asked if I exercised.

Look forward to your comments.

Thanks.

If your doctor doesn't want to give you a way to lower the blood sugars with lowering the carb count together, then you may want to get a second opinion from a different doctor.

Janumet (brand name) contains two generic drugs viz., Sitagliptin and Metformin. Composition for Glyciphage 500mg Tablet SR is Metformin (500mg).

Janumet is prescribed if you are not able to control your blood sugar by metformin alone.

Sitagliptin is used along with diet and exercise and sometimes with other medications to lower blood sugar levels in patients with type 2 diabetes (condition in which blood sugar is too high because the body does not produce or use insulin normally). Sitagliptin is in a class of medications called dipeptidyl peptidase-4 (DPP-4) inhibitors. It works by increasing the amounts of certain natural substances that lower blood sugar when it is high.

Metformin is used alone or with other medications, including insulin, to treat type 2 diabetes (condition in which the body does not use insulin normally and, therefore, cannot control the amount of sugar in the blood). Metformin is in a class of drugs called biguanides. Metformin helps to control the amount of glucose (sugar) in your blood. It decreases the amount of glucose you absorb from your food and the amount of glucose made by your liver. Metformin also increases your body's response to insulin, a natural substance that controls the amount of glucose in the blood.

Evidence based study is required for the change of anti-diabetic medications. Hence you may check blood sugar level daily and HbA1c level once in every 3 months.
