Early in the morning a coup of plain tea and taking the sample after 12 hours of fasting will it distort the validity of the reading?

Fasting means nothing to be consumed except plain water.Seems liver and pancreas react when any kind of food is consumed leading to elevated sugar and insulin levels.8 to 10 hours of fasting is adequate.Avoid tea or coffee before giving samples.Caffeine may spike sugar levels temporarily.

If you are going to take the test, I would say you avoid drinking tea before the test, to be on the safe side.

If you have already taken the test after drinking tea, I would say blood sugar result will be affected depending on how much sugar and milk you added to the tea.

If you did not add any sugar or milk, blood sugar change may not be significant.
