It is a very important indicator of sugar control mechanism of your body. After dinner at ,say,9pm,you are bound to run out of nourishment by ,say 12pm.But your vital body functions like breathing, heart beating, blood circulation, kidney function, digestive function etc.have to co continue uninterruptedly. This is when the liver releases glucose from it's reserves as your system's demands. The pancreatic gland releases insulin so that glucose released by the liver is properly utilized. This activity goes on in a coordinated manner. In a normal person, not only body's functional requirements are met but also the sugar levels are maintained at even keel. But,in case of diabetics, due to short supply of insulin, the equation gets skewed and when you take fbs reading after 8 to 10 hours of fasting your reading shows higher than reference numbers, and the severity of of the person's diabetes can be gauzed accordingly.

HbA1c reflects the average value of blood glucose over the past three months. For example, HbA1c of 6% means your average blood glucose in the past three months has been 126 mg/dl. Please see the link below for conversion table from HbA1c to average blood glucose.
As you are aware, blood glucose keeps varying through out the day and therefore HbA1c provides a very good measure of overall control of our blood glucose. Yes, FBS will also impact the HbA1c value. In fact, it is a time averaged value. If blood glucose is high for a very short period of time say 1/2 hr in a day it will have a less impact on HbA1c and vice versa.
PPBS affects more on (normally up to 70%) Hba1c than FBS. (when PPBS is higher than FBS for most of the time).
Thanks!
